Comments (11)These gentlemen on the island of Madeira were playing some game of cards where they would lunge forward and throw their card down in an attempt to play before someone else. It was the only time I've seen a card game that would qualify as aerobic exercise. They were hanging out killing time waiting to take tourists for a ride in a sled down the steep streets of the town. Comments (13)Oh yes, there will be beans, and thank goodness, they aren't on our property. The house next door that has been empty and uncared for in the last 9 years, had just one huge mature tree. But is these last 9 years Catalpas have come up all over and are now bearing flowers. Love their perfume and the flowers, but the huge leaves and the beans travel well come fall. Catalpas around here are considered junk trees. There are 3 non bearing ornamental Catalpas on that property that anyone would consider to be dead. This is one of the 3 ornamental Catalpa there. A short, about 12', rounded crown tree. Still the extra large leaves, but no flowering. The trunks on all 3 are split like this and mostly hollow, but they leafed out beautifully again this year....See More

Bob's sea of daylilies yesterday inspired me to take a few daylilies yesterday afternoon. That bite mark in the flower is from my goats. Add that to yet another plant/flower that goats will eat.
This one is being pollinated by fly. There were loads of them pollinating yesterday.

11 years agoMy daylilies are blooming too. I used to have their names written down somewhere, but no idea where that is!
11 years agoThis is my Baltimore Oriole daylily. I have others, but other than Kwanza, I don't know which is which. I just pick them for their colors. :)

Another one of my flower beds in the back yard. I wish I could keep the yarrow from sprawling.

11 years agoThis is a lily from a previous year. Unfortunately, we are so limited on water in CA, and the lilies did not come up this year.
