Sabbath, are Golden Tortoise Beetles eating holes your morning glory plants? I removed several from my morning glory and moonflower plants yesterday. I'd never seen an insect like these . . . they look like they're made of pure gold. The metallic gold turns to plain brown after they die.

Little Scruffy the cat on patrol yesterday. She weighs about 3 oz. under all that fur. :-)

Alisande- something is eating up my morning glories and my sweet potato vine. I can't find what ever is eating them up though. What's strange is that I had sweet potato vine grow up from last year and then I planted some new and what ever is eating everything will only eat the NEW sweet potato vine??

Alisande...I have morning glories...& I've never seen THAT beetle. It's so weird/disco looking! :0)

Sabbath, you might try looking on the underside of the leaves. Or brush your hand lightly over the leaves and see if anything falls to the ground. That's how I found the gold beetles. Last year's morning glories had no damage whatsoever, but this year's plants really got hit. Apparently the beetles love the whole ipomoea family, which includes morning glories, moonflowers, and sweet potato vine.

Hareball, no leash. I think what you're seeing is a blade of grass that escaped the lawnmower.

Moni - I agree with Nicole, that petunia is spectacular! It would be a shame if it did not survive. When we go on vacation this summer, I plan to take two hanging baskets to the next door neighbor (her garden in the photo above) to be cared for while we're gone, since I don't want to lose them.

Before I got my automatic watering soaker hoses I would put large jugs of water with small holes in the lids upside down all over in the garden. It worked like a charm. :) It seemed to work better than watering from above even so I got the soaker hoses and put them on a timer. Love it!

I just returned from a 3-week sojourn into Alaska and more. The petunias in my planter boxes did not do well. Just too darned hot.

Treated myself to some containers today after a visit to the doctor. This Coleus is my favorite.

I love coleus. So many beautiful colors and combinations. I have some every year. That is beautiful.
