Just curious...what types of plants do you grow as houseplants?
Comments (42)I've only been working on my current collection for 2 years now 'cause I keep having to leave behind my collections 'cause I used to move alot, but this is what I've got so far. x2 Sansevieria trifasciata (one regular, one laurentii) Spathiphyllum wallisii Chlorophytum comosum variegatum Cereus peruvianus Hoya carnosa Podocarpus macrophyllus Dracaena marginata x2 Codiaeum variegatum pictum (one regular, one Golden Star) Ficus diversifolia x2 Howiea (some say Howea) belmoreana Hypoestes sanguinolenta (had 3 colors, red, white and pink but for some reason the red didn't make it) Dieffenbachia picta Exotica x2 Zygocactus truncatus (one with white flowers, the other with salmon) African violet (grew from a cutting) Schefflera actinophylla Citrus paradisi (grapfruit tree from seed ^_^) Echinocereus pectinatus Lobivia famatimensis Lemaireocereus marginatus An uknown cactus that looks kind of like a Lobivia but yet not...but I call it my snowman cactus 'cause they way it's shaped it looks like a snowman without a head. Philodendron scandens Sedum morganianum Saxifraga sarmentosa Beaucarnea recurvata Aglaonema Silver Queen Tillandsia cyanea Kalanchoe tomentosa A succulent whose leaves are bluish green and fuzzy and slightly pointed at the ends. Thought it may have been an Echeveria setosa...but those leaves are waxy...not fuzzy. Sedum pachyphyllum Aphelandra squarrosa louisae Sempervivum arachnoideum Coleus (just a little seedling) Araucaria heterophylla x2 Hedera helix (one Glacier, one sagittaefolia) Coffea arabica Gasteria liliputana (one of my personal favs) Lavandula heterophylla Radermachera sinica Dracaena deremensis x2 Pteris (one ensiformis victoriae, one cretica albolineata) Zamioculcus zamiifolia (the infamous ZZ plant, another one of my favs) Crassula perforata (probably not a good reason to buy a plant but I bought it merely for it's common name...string of buttons!) That's it, that's all. 14 of the plants on that list were added just this month! >_I have a few seeds I'm waiting on too though. Fuschia, Cactus, Salpiglossis, Strelitzia, Passiflora, Musa, Dracaena (forget exactly what it is), Lithops and a Succulent....See MoreDo You Buy Things You Can Not Use?
Comments (15)I think it would be easier to say what I buy that I really do need! lol! Sitting at my computer, I see a brass quail, McCoy pottery frog, a tiny pink rooster, a jade elephant, a rock painted to look like a cat, a seashell and assorted cats, birds and birdhouses including a wooden cat from Bali with wings, "cat tails" - wooden cat tails painted to look like cats, carved wooden birds and a strange toucan made of pottery. And that's just on my computer cabinet! Oh I forgot the toy Pterydactl and sock bunny. I always joke that instead of shopping at thrift stores, I should just open my own....See MoreSo do you buy pots you don't need?
Comments (40)I was in Target and decided to take a look in housewares. The selection of really good looking bowls was impressive and most of them are cheaper than regular house plant pots. I think I'll be getting a few of them, and a diamond encrusted drill bit. I never thought to look at these bowls as potential pots. Thanks for the ideas!...See MoreHav eyou ever been so overwhelmed you are hesitant to buy things?
Comments (27)Oh I know how you feel! I am frozen with finishing my living room, mainly because of one of my cats. I made some lovely plaid drapes and would like to get two new chairs. But my sweet Emma will scratch on the furniture despite having scratching posts and those corrugated box things with catnip. I've tried the squirt bottle with water, which helps for a short time, but then she's right back at it. There's now a small spot on the back of the sofa with threads sticking out. I just don't think I want the added stress with new chairs but what I have now doesn't work. So I spend a lot of time outside with my roses instead of making a decision. My DH just shakes his head. Good luck! You've gotten lots of good advice. Take your time and buy what you love. Maybe you'll find a painting or rug that will inspire you. I'm so sorry for all of you hurt by this lousy economy. My son lost his job at the first of the year. Luckily he is single, no kids, but he's still living on a fraction of what he made before. I'm just thankful we're in a position to help him out, if needed....See Morerobo (z6a)
