Thanks! I have done all my previous rose gardening in a more temperate area. I "blamed" the situation on our heat, but had not ever seen an HT bloom in clusters. Cynthia remains beautiful, even in clusters.

Oh, you've reminded me. I used to have Cynthia quite some time ago. I had forgotten all about this rose. I did love the flowers, I remember that. Off to HMF to take a look at her again...

When the heat lets up and she's back to normal, I will try to post photos of her. I am just starting at this house, so I only have 17 HTs right now, but Cynthia my favorite! So easygoing, never gets blackspot, blooms even when rabbits eat her. The only bush who hasn't looked stressed in our crazy heatwave.

Cadiarose, I am the self-proclaimed president of the Cynthia fan club. Get yourself another one! Mine is next to the front door, and people walk right past Shreveport, Veldfire, Sugar Moon, Eiffel Tower, Oklahoma, etc and make a beeline for her. I think sometimes I [& others with obsessive compulsive rose disorder ; ) ] don't realize the impact of a big, fragrant, deep pink rose.

I remain a firm member of the "Cynthia" fan club, but for entirely different reasons (ahem). Sadly, the rose Cynthia is one that simply will not survive our zone 5 winters even when pampered so my namesake will have to go appreciated in other yards like yours. The same goes for Cynthia Brooke, and I've tried both at least twice. Someone needs to breed a Morden rose and call it "Lovely Cynthia" or something of the sort (smile).
Glad she'd doing so well for you - I think Seil has the heart of what's going on with your clusters. After all, it's hard to complain about 4 Cynthia blooms rather than just one, eh?

Yes, indeed! Those clusters might be kinda funny looking, but they have the truly splendid Cynthia aroma. Last year, I made rosewater out of dried Cynthia petals. The last bit just came out of my refrigerator and still smells lovely. I use it as a facial toner and I imagine I smell like Cynthia all day! This year, I plan on using fresh petals to see if I can get a nearly clear rosewater to use on my linens. Cynthia forever! ; )

I know this is an older thread but can I ask where you purchased your Cynthia Brooke from? I've been looking and haven't found it, RVR does not have it. Thank you!

Which Cynthia on HMF are we talking about? None of the descriptions are for a single rose, all double. But then again its late so maybe I"m just missing it - will try again tomorrow.

I'm sorry, I was asking nippstress Cynthia where she purchased her "Cynthia Brooke" rose, and the thread is on another rose named "Cynthia".

Sorry for the confusion Thistle. Cynthia Brooke is a one and only so I found it but there are four Cynthia roses and I want to check out the one that gets such raves.

MaryC, my Cynthia is Warriner 1975, I think also known as something like Chanterelle. I sold that house last year and do miss my Cynthia. Planning on buying another house next year and getting a new Cynthia. I doubt I will buy the next one from Heirloom. I will probably ask the place in Mississippi- Classy Roses? - to start one for me. Cynthia tolerated Raleigh NC very, very well and weathered brutally hot & humid spells, ice storms, 2 hurricanes, deer, rabbits, Japanese beetles and who knows what else in a no big-chem garden. I treated her blackspot with fine cornmeal and shook Japanese beetles into tubs of soapy water. When I sold the house, she was 6'x3 and rarely without blooms. A fine rose and worth the effort.

Is Classy Roses still in business? I tried to contact them this year with no luck. Of course, I managed to find enough roses though!

I don't know! It's been a really difficult year, along with something happening to my houzz account, so no updates came until now. Is our online family still posting? Would love to hear everything! I am in my 2nd temporary housing, planning on a big move to Memphis next summer. I took a few small roses with me and have 4 survivors in big pots. What's the name of the current thread?

Good to hear from you Holly and sympathies on the difficult year. Moving is always a tough time and leaving roses behind makes it tougher. Hopefully things settle down before too long.

Thornthrower, I got Cynthia Brooke from two places. One is inaccessible, since it was Eurodesert Roses that are out of business. The other was Rogue Valley in 2012. I've noticed that RV isn't nearly as active at expanding their line of roses over the last couple of years so it might not return to availability from them. I have a good 20 roses I keep an eye on my wish list from them that haven't resurfaced in about 5 years. It's worth checking though.

Thank you for the info Holly. Beautiful photos on HMF. I love light pink roses but didn't have any. Now I've overcompensated so I'm slowly adding darker pinks to break things up. This will definitely go on my 'to be considered' list.
