Suggestions for ew (and old) furniture advice and decor for new build
Comments (4)Thanks for bumping. Attached is my drawing of the main floor combining our architects preliminary plans and my suggested tweaks. There will probably be a few more changes after we meet with the architect at the end of this month. Best Views are definitly our back (creek and green belt). Althoug not noted, both front porches are also covered -- required by the architectural guidlines. Our side is the right and will have a guest suite upstairs (the small bedroom downstairs on the right is really an office with a Murphy bed. The "kids" side will have a master and another bedroom upstairs. And I'm afraid that rug won't make the cut, just a bit too floral for the style we're shooting for -- i love it though. I'm hoping to find a rug more like this:...See MoreI need to add color to my boring living room. New build
Comments (28)A statement art piece above the fireplace would be a natural focal point. Try picking at least one color from the artwork and repeating it in details around the room. Also resist the urge to choose an art piece that lines up with mantel edges. Use a piece that is narrower or wider to ensure that the artwork is a feature and not just an extension of the fireplace....See Morefurniture layout in living room in new build?
Comments (7)most encourage 2 couches rather than love seat. provides more seating without much additional space used. Sectionals also not recomended. If your children are old enough to prefer sitting in a chair, you would probably want 2 couches and 2 chairs. are you do formal separate from tv? might wish to think about it. maybe put the family tv room over in the sitting area? regarding the entrance way, i always prefer having it separated especially if the family room is first room they enter. at the moment, i would do an l with the sofas and then have the 2 chairs. 2 have 3 sides facing the fireplace, with tv next to it. you might then wish to have another small sitting area in front the windows, that then can be brought into the grouping when necessary. did you wish to anything else in there? office space, game table?...See MoreNew mum overwhelming by her blue living room. any suggestion please
Comments (20)Totally get your overwhelmed feeling. I once picked out a nice shade of blue that looked way to harsh as well. Maybe your husband dislikes it as much as you do? Maybe he doesn't want to give you the blues, but is inwardly choking on this color too? I would try to find his honest perspective and if he is in doubt too, I would really and sincerely apologize very much indeed. Then I would suggest to go for at least two shades lighter and try it out on a bit of one wall first. And indeed, keeping the lower part in step with the woodwork, I'd paint that all white anyway. Although some given ideas might soften the pain a bit, it will never become what it is supposed to be. Alternatively you could make this the room of your newborn, if he is a son, and move the living room into his bedroom... just kidding ;) At least you'll never fall into this trap again for the rest of your life....See Moreamykath
