I think my coffee table is too big for my new sofa! Ugh
Comments (52)If you don't really use the coffee table then how about an ottoman with a tray on it? Then the people on the couch portion have a place to put their feet up. I have a long, narrow ottoman in front of my couch. It was a place filler while I searched for a coffee table I liked. We got so used to putting our feet up when watching a movie that I never got that coffee table. Mine has a flip up top for storage. I keep a wooden tray in there and when we entertain and need a spot for drinks then I pop the tray on top....See MoreIs my island too big for my space?
Comments (13)Yes, I got to 42" by adding the 24" and 18" cabinet widths of cabinets 8 and 10. And yes, there will be a panel on the "dining room" sides of cabinets 7 and 9, the living room side of cabinet 10, and kitchen side of cabinet 8. I didn't think about the 1" overhang on the working sides of the island, thanks! I've seen the recommended minimum overhang for counter height seating is 15", and we "field tested" some of the kitchen displays at IKEA. None of them were 15" (two were between 11" and 13") and they didn't feel narrow or awkward even for my DH who is 6'1". I was hoping to save an 1"-1.5" there if possible. This home was built in 1952, and we learned after our first winter in the house last year that the exterior walls are not insulated... We've been told by one contractor that he can install a header and remove the studs, so we're planning on recessing about 3"....See MoreToo big or too small, pot for my Echeveria?
Comments (15)Sorry Ryan didn't notice you'd included number 6 in your comment at the top (even though I'd checked to see if anyone had mentioned it). I would have worded it differently. Plus I keep posting this and it won't work coz my Internet reception is in and out at the moment. So I hope this works.... no it didn't, but I've copied it and keep trying. Been trying to answer, comment, say thanks to things said etc. Anyway just after midnight, so might be better at night. Here goes...... Nope. 2am down the street?...See MoreWill My Kitchen Island Be Too Big?
Comments (41)My overhang ended up being less than my original plan. It’s 13 1/2” on the long side and 8” on the short. My first island top was marble with 15” and 12” overhangs but the fabricator was not able to repair his mistakes so long story short, my DH and I ended up DIYing our walnut top. That was the max size I could get without a custom up charge. It’s worked out fine for us. I installed a 12” wide cabinet on each short side which contributes to the island depth but reduces the overhang. These cabs are assessable from the sides so I do not have to move stools to access them. I did not want to give up that storage for 1 1/2” more overhang. I never give it a thought and we are completely comfortable sitting at the island which is our preferred spot. The short side is used as overflow or a perch spot during parties. I’m 5’8” and hubs is 6’ and we have no issues with it. My stools are comfy and the island is the only comfortable place I can sit in the house with my bad back. I am actually glad it turned out as it did since my entire kitchen, living and dining is only 24 x 24. My island is s comfortable size for all our needs My pullouts under the sink are each 18” wide. The left one is short to allow for the disposal. All plumbing is tight to the back left and my drain is offset left. Try to squeeze in a pantry so your dry goods can be together. It doesn’t look like you’ll have much storage for food. Maybe the steam oven can b incorporated into a pantry cab. I have an 18” pantry pullout that I love. Thank you! I really like my glass uppers. And in spite of what many claim they are extremely easy to keep clean and do not collect grease. It keeps my kitchen light and bright. I love my Ikea kitchen. It works so well for me. Post your plan when you have one!...See MoreEmre Yurttas
