Selling Weedy Acres...staging the guest bedroom
Comments (12)See what the addition of another color in the headboard does? Perks it right up. But I agree, the valances are too dark for everything else. If you had some pictures on the walls, they wouldn't stand out so much. I would hang to the sill panels in a warm brownish color, the same tone as the head board and tie them back with a cord....get some shape other than square going in there. You are plainly trying to set the stage....but if you sent me that picture of your guest room and invited me for the weekend, I would think...eww....no clock, where do I put my bags and the rest of my stuff? On the floor? You need a low dresser or even a book case in there and if you want to really say "guest room" a luggage rack is wonderful. And for staging you could put an open suitcase on it....See MoreStage a master bedroom?
Comments (20)amysrq and others~~ Thanks for suggesting the book, "Ready, Set, Sell"....I will try to find it. I did read the one something about dummy getting the house staged (or something like that)....and did found it very informative. The one "big" thing we are going to do.....that is if I get DH in the mood.....is to replace all the shiny brass fixtures/knobs/lights in the kitchen to a bronze.....and since our marble etched so badly, we are going to put on granite squares (can't see spending $$$$$$ on slabs....I don't think we can re-coop in this town....although ours is a very nice home, this town is not "up-scale"....so unless someone comes in from somewhere else (maybe California), we are going to have hard enough time finding someone who can afford it. Not much money in a military town~~~ I did get new white bedding and curtains and plan to use a pretty sage bolster pillow and throw on the bed (I know some have suggested bright colors, but wanted to keep that "serene feeling"....walls are a rather deep taupe...carpet is creme....furniture is a dark wood. I'll get a single rose to put in a little white vase and a few sage candles and call it quits for there. The MB is connected and it is painted a couple shades lighter taupe, white towels with a bit of sage and soft rose so thought I would stick to the same colors in the bedroom. I am in the process of REALLY digging...and plan to have a huge garage sale when it gets cooler.....and took sacks and sacks of clothes to Goodwill already cleaning out closets. IF we sell this house, our next one will be really down-sized from this one....and we are "over retirement" ages, so "things" just aren't too important to us anymore....been there, done that~~ Even "collections" are going....enjoyed them once, but that time is over....now it is just "clutter". I really do appreciate yours and all the others help and suggestions in this "staging" thing....as I said before, DH thinks it is "bologna". I always have been a good housekeeper (although not as much as I used to be). I had a couple realtor friends who live here in our housing development come and walk through.....they said they didn't see anything that needed to be changed....in fact, they thought I had "staged" it already~~~~ Keep thoughts coming....I really appreciate them....See MoreBedroom paint color and question on bed cover for staging
Comments (36)We're getting ready to sell our house, too. Part of the realtor's service is getting a stager to stage the house. She took down all personal photos and some framed wall art, knick knacks, move some furniture around, and move some furniture to the garage. Box up all the winter clothes and other clothes you don't use often, to make the closet look bigger. She mentioned using plain white towels in the bathroom, white beddings because white photographs well. Also white flowers in a small or medium vase on the nightstand. I have a white matelasse bedspread with tiny blue and green flowers, and she didn't mention changing it out to a plain white one. One thing that I never head of before is to remove the bath rugs, kitchen rugs and trash can (people don't want to see other people's trash) during showing or open house. We've sold 2 homes in the past and we'd just empty the trash can before a showing....See MoreAdvice For Master Bedroom Staging
Comments (43)..to your question about eggplant and green..I vaguely remembered I saw this combo somewhere..now I've stumbled upon this pic again: as you can see the green is totally different from yours-it's deeper color of the same intensity as the eggplant. I'd probably call it chartreuse? Easier to pull off. But not only because of the similar intensity-mostly because it's a tiny space with lots of openings, so the accent wall reads less like an accent wall..it looks like a build in (which it partially is), and has a sense of purpose about it. Which it might not have if being just one of the walls in otherwise differently painted room. Some people can pull off absolutely everything; I for example don't consider myself being one of these lucky people lol, so I'd be hesitant to do an accent wall, unless: -architecture or shape of the room supports it somehow -it makes sense for bringing attention to a certain element (an opening between two parts of one bigger open room, a niche, etc) -it's close in color to the main color. just a bit deeper for example -it's wallpaper that ties all the colors together including the main wall color. somehow it's subtler thus easier to pull off. well, and because I have a soft spot for wallpaper)) Again, there's not like it's right or wrong. It's more on the easier-harder scale..at least to me. Now as for the ceiling..interestingly, I somehow see this happening more than I see an accent wall. I can't explain it to myself yet..)) Just a feeling. But I think you need to consider many many things if going for it. Ceiling height, floor color..whatnot.....See Moretibbrix
