Yellow spots on newly planted apple trees?

Hello,

I planted a new orchard of 28 apple trees this past spring. We are located in Zone 5, New York's Hudson Valley located approximately 1/4 mile east of the Hudson River. These trees are a combination of cider and heirloom varieties with four trees on B.118 and 24 trees on various Geneva semi-dwarf rootstocks. I've had these small yellow spots showing up over the last week on a few varieties. We have some 25-year old plus Macs and Geneva crab on the property that show no signs of this. Should I assume Cedar Apple Rust? Isn't it too late to appear? We had very little rain in May with average rain for June. The trees were all sourced from Cummins and have grown very well so far. Any input is appreciated.

That is Cedar Apple Rust or CAR. We had dry spring. That could be why CAR showed up later because we got wet later this year.

You have a lot of fruit trees. Many experienced posters who used to posted here have moved to a new forum. I am not allowed to mention its name here. If you google Scott Smith plus Growing fruit, it will lead to his new foru,

Many experts on how to treat fruit trees for diseases and bugs there will be able to help you.

If you do not check that site out, my answer to you is to spray it with Immumox by Specracide. It is a bit late but it will help. Next year spray first spray at petal fall and may be 1-2more time 10-14days apart.

We grow many of those varieties in our nursery they typically show slight touches of CAR every year. I have never had one get any worse symptoms that what you show. Levels like you have dont really affect the health of the tree IMO. CAR can make ugly fruit though.

David: Apple blossoms grow in clusters. Healthy apple trees in their 2nd year in the ground are capable of ripening out a couple or three apples without any harm. But if and when those blossoms set fruit, thin the clusters to the one best fruit each. If they don't set fruit, then it's out of your hands, but they will probably do so next season. I thin apples to one per cluster even on mature trees to maximize fruit size and quality. Not trying to maximize numbers here. Brian: Gee that's an ugly looking tree you just planted. Looks like it sat in a pot for three years. I don't like three main laterals all coming from one point. But the tree looks too old to start over that low. So I'd cut to laterals facing in the direction you want growth. And balance up the sides by cutting more on the taller lateral. In your country any apple will bear well if it doesn't break down. So your tree has hope. Just thin well and try not to overload any limbs. You could even tie the limbs together. The Fruitnut

Love your Bottlebrush tree! I noticed in your pictures that you have the mulch all the way up to the trunk. Maybe you might try clearing it out leaving a clean 12 inch diameter around the trunk. It sounds like you are doing all the right things though. I planted two Bottlebrush trees last year and they both had some yellow leaves after planting too. I wouldn't be too concerned. I watered mine every two days for about a month and then twice a week throughout the summer and I have clay soil here in the Houston area. I did amend the soil with some quality potting soil mix before planting and fertilized twice so far with MicroLife fertilizer (made in Texas!). Good luck with your new tree! Yellow spots on my newly planted washingtonia fan palm. Please Help

I planted this palm about one month ago and I have noticed that the fronds are presenting with yellow spots beginning at the ends of the fronds and working there way towards the stock.
