Like many Colonials, you home is its own unique hybrid, and either interior style would work successfully in your home. English Country will lend itself to more floral fabrics and layers of items, where Shaker Amish will be more streamline. Lovely home.

If you like Shaker and English country....then maybe New England style would be an option? Here's a few pictures on Pinterest....

If you are talking about furniture, any transitional-traditional style would work, really.

Also, I'd call it Neo-Eclectic. It's not particularly colonial, it's just that everything sort of traditional with a relatively steep-pitched gable roof, and 6/6 windows gets called "colonial". There are also a lot of Craftsman type details grafted on to a non-Craftsman house. It's pleasant-enough looking but it doesn't really evoke anything historical too specifically.

Our interior designer calls homes like this "builders' delight." He calls ours that.....and it's true :-(

That seems mean of your interior designer @kswl2 :( I wouldn't feel good about my house if it was 'labeled' like that (if my interpretation is correct). And I'm sure your house is not so!

Not mean, akl, he is just brutally honest. Most houses built today are no true identifiable style. Fenestration, in particular, is placed with no external symmetry---just where a window of any size or shape goes from the inside perspective. Case in point are those ubiquitous horizontal windows over bathtubs that make no sense stylistically from the outside.

Our house was designed for our site with heavy influence and input from the original owner.......we call it the unholy alliance between architect and attorney, lol. It looks fine (especially since we had a new portico designed for it almost five years ago, but it is still "builder's delight." I guess it doesn't bother me because I didn't have a thing to do with the original design!

I like the exterior of your house. I think the fact that you are aware of the notion that your interior and exterior shouldn't clash is a great start.

To me, some of the other related issues are to not overdo a theme with too many kitschy accessories and to also be aware of your locale when you decorate. I think Shaker and English country could work really well together.

Thanks all. Yes, it is quite literally a "builder's special" as it was built by a contractor for himself. I know the style is not the best, but the location was perfect for us. Inside it's kind of a mishmash of Tuscan and western.

The horizontal windows are not actually above a bathtub but in a hallway.
