This plant volunteered in my flower bed. Last year I thought is was a seedling Crape Myrtle so I left it to see what color it would be, as I have had several CM volunteers that are different colors. This year it is not looking exactly like a CM unless it's some odd mutant. The young stems are square. The opposing leaves are offset just a little, like a CM. The main branch is round with smooth skin/bark that looks like a CM. However, the branches are all very symmetrical and the leaf shape is not like any of the other CMs in the neighborhood. The photo shows one branch. There are others that come off the central trunk and they all have the same shape. The overall shape is not like a CM.

I'm stumped and so are a couple of other knowledgeable gardeners in the neighborhood. Any ideas?
