Comments (8)Great question, because we are facing the exact same thing. DH has been mulling it over for a couple weeks on how to get it flush mounted in an otherwise frameless cabinet. I finally looked at it and said 'forget it.' Am I really going to notice after it's in? Because the cabinet it's going in is deep and next to shallower ones, it will have an end panel that can maybe come out next the oven a bit. If it doesn't, that black line will show and I'll cook in it just fine anyway. Can you tell I'm just tired of all the housebuilding details? So many things we probably won't think twice about while we're living there, but commiserate over so long when building! Best wishes and I hope someone comes up with a very helpful answer to your question. I do remember someone talking about how they had a wider than 30" cabinet so they could have the flush installation. Seekingadvice or Pecanpie maybe? Comments (9)For anyone else out there with this question, I can tell you my experience so far. Just installed Gaggenau 30" double wall oven, Stainless Steel model BX280610. The height at the top of the unit is 70". I am 5'4" and was worried about it being too high. No worries. It is the perfect height. I can easily reach and see something baking on the top rack. Also, before using the oven it is recommended to wash the inside thoroughly, including the trays and racks. I could reach every corner of the oven cavity without standing on my tip toes. I am extremely happy with the height we chose. Installation was easy because we were replacing an existing wall unit and electrical components were already in place. Once the cabinet space was reconfigured, the rest was a breeze. When it arrived, we plugged it in and slid it into place. The screws were a bit of an issue. I was prepared for that because of some installation comments I had read online. We were able to tighten all three screws on the left (handle) side of the oven and the bottom right corner screw. The middle right-side (hinge side) and top right-side screws were impossible to get to and we just left them alone. This was the issue I had previously read about and leaving the screws out (at least for the time being)was not an issue for other users. The upper oven door hangs slightly unlevel, which makes it a little bit difficult to open and close. We have some calls out to a recommended installer to see if the door hinges can be adjusted in some way to level the door. That was yesterday. Have not heard back yet. As for my first impression, let me just say ... IT IS GORGEOUS! Everything I hoped it would be. My sister said she never thought she would hear herself describe an oven as beautiful, then said there were no other words for it but WOW! and BEAUTIFUL! Okay, so that's how it looks. Using it will take some time (and I'm guessing quite a bit of time) to evaluate. The manual is more of a start-up guide. I know the oven has many wonderful features, but I don't know how to find them! I'm no rocket scientist, but I do consider myself a bit of a techy. I love a good manual. I usually read them from cover to cover to familiarize myself with any new electronic gadget or appliance. Honestly, I don't know how, or even if, I can set simultaneous timers. So far I have only been able to set one timer. What if I have things baking in both ovens? Does anyone out there know if it is possible to run two timers? I can supposedly store up to 16 baking profiles, but how? It's not even addressed in the "manual". If there are experienced Gaggenau oven users out there ... Comments (18)About half of my kitchen is the same Brookhaven cabinets that sarahandbray has. They are wonderful -- well made adn beautifully finished. Since I just saw a thread about cabinet depth, I will point out that standard wall cabinet depth on Brookhaven is 13" and allows you to fit larger plates and bowls in your upper cabinets. Don't get trapped into thinking that wood is necessarily better than composite materials. There are different grades of wood (generally plywood) and MDF, poarticle board or other composites. I've had plenty of plywood around here for home and school projects. In fact, there is a sheet sitting under concrete blocks on my driveway because it had some serious warping issues. Plywood is very vulnerable to warping. I can also tell you that in the two years since I had my cabinets installed, I have had several water issues -- my plumber didn't connect the prep sink properly. I had a leak inside the cabinet. Even though I mopped it up and thought I caught it fairly quickly, the bottom of the cabinet bubbled in places. No -- it wasn't MDF or particle board. This was inside my all wood Woodmode cabients on the island. On the other hand, I had water run through the pan of my rangetop and down into the cabinet belwo when someone turned their back on the new and fast flowing potfiller. I was sure there would be a problem, but you would never know. Similarly, the main sink and faucet were also not connected properly (the plumber was the source of the bigger pains in my remodel). I have had water in the bottom of that cabinet at least three times before everything was caught and hopefully fixed. No problems there either. Both the rangetop and main sink cabinets are Brookhaven. Another thing -- my KD ordered the cabinets on the end of each run with wood sides -- not because they wood was better but because she wanted to assure that the finish was the same on the ends as on the front (I have seen the two materials with the same finish and they do look different). Overall construction and finish should be more important that generic terms like "wood" or "MDF". I have heard of Crystal here but don't know anything about them personally. I don't get the imprssion that they are on par with Brookhaven though. If Brookhaven and Kraftmaid are within a few hundred dollars, I have no doubt that I would pick Brookhaven -- for the finish (which also has a lot to do with how well your cabinets last over the years), the added inch of depth and the overall quality. Plus, you have the Woodmode company behind you if you have any problems....See MoreMerillat or KraftMaid?
Comments (24)We did KM Ginger Glaze on maple, which I loved, for our kitchen remodel in our previous condo. Bought from HD and DIY install. A couple of doors were warped, and KM sent us new ones. We did KM again in our new home through a different HD: Toffee on birch for the mudroom & laundry, which looks blander than I'd expected--but maybe I didn't choose the right color counter top or paint; Sunset on cherry for the lower level walkout kitchen which I like just as well as the upstairs kitchen cherry cabinets without the cost of the glaze (which I forget the name of, but has since been changed). We had several warped doors (large order with 42" tall upper cabs) and a few other issues which we took digital pictures of and sent via internet to KM's rep via HD. Replacements were sent for all cabinet problems, but I'm sure that was partly because I'd itemized each problem with it's cabinet order # and a suggested solution on a spreadsheet and sent it with the accompanying photos. My husband went in to our HD with me when we ordered the cabinets, and again when we had the problems. He's more rational and diplomatic than I am, so that was a help! Also, our HD KD had been a carpenter in his previous life, and was one of HD's best long term kitchen salespeople. He presented our situation to the HD manager who communicated with KM on our behalf. Because of this support, I would use both HD and KM again. I'd gotten an estimate for Merillat, but the KD was so disorganized, that she didn't get back to me twice. When I finally caught her, the amount was about double what it should have been, and she hadn't even caught her mistake, so I didn't want to work with her. I was going to get an estimate for KM from an independent place, but since the gal was on commission, she was always rushing through everything. I went with HD because I could go at my own pace. However, even with appointments there, there are constant interruptions due to phones ringing and other customers needing quick answers to questions. Like Nalcar, I measured everything myself, figured out every detail of my order, and gave it to the KD both times (after discussing the various cabinets with them), and then double checked the printout before I paid for the finalized copy.
