Do I need to buy new cookware for a new glass cooktop?
Comments (6)We have not experienced scratching with our GE smooth top. However, it is not the white, and is the speckled grey/black finish, so perhaps we just do not see the scratches. Use a razor blade and CeramaBright to clean. The key to smooth top cookware is a very flat machined bottom -- and smooth to avoid scratches. Aluminum or copper bottom is likely going to be less abrasive. And the cookware flat surface has to match the diameter of the element used. No use in putting a small diameter on a large element, or the element will just cut back in output. In other words a large diameter high output element is useless unless you use a matching diameter pan....See MoreIT WORKED!! Photos of Current Kitchen and New Plans
Comments (4)You have no idea how excited I am about figuring out how to post photos. I feel like when my son would get a new Lego! The hutch means 'love' to me. It took years to find it and I can only imagine how much history and stories come with it. Almost everything displayed on each shelf is new but look on the bottom shelf - I know it's hard to see but the plate shows a scene of 2 deer - a buck and a doe. It belonged to my great-grandmother. My grandmother gave it to me at my wedding. I was told that 'Bubbie' brought it over from Russia. Her mother had given it to her as a wedding gift. It survived a trans-Atlantic crossing, Ellis Island, and now it's in my house. Do you see the spice tins? Montco, Ann Page, and Durkee metal tins that I inherited from my mother-in-law. My sister-in-law took the Waterford, I wanted the tins! They're from the 1940's and 50's. The pumpkin pie spice says 27cents on it! I just opened then and believe it or not the cinnamon and pp spice still smell fresh!...See MoreOld Fashioned Way or...New Gadgets?
Comments (40)A couple of comments are in order here: First, I think my concept of a "pressure cooker" needs to be updated. I guess I was recalling the "pressure CANNER" that was my total experience with pressure pans of any sort, until I got a long handled pressure pan as a wedding present way back in 1958. And the TIMELY MANOR....what a great name for a house! You caught it yourself, MamaGoose, and then you tracked it down in that other naming thread. It is a truly inspired name. With hints of British humor, much like Fawlty Arms. It could be a TV series. Also, because of THIS THREAD, I cruised by the small appliances in my trip to the WalMart pharmacy yesterday. I saw the KitchenAid mixer, sitting there in all its glory. Everything else cost under a hundred bucks, but the KA cost $199.99 so they are still proud of it. Any thoughts I had of buying it must wait until I get the kitchen done. I sure did like the looks of the stainless bowl and the heavy duty blades. It is a design which has endured. I also looked at other small appliances. You know, they make so many different shapes in SLOW COOKERS....what I used to call the CROCK POT is actually a BRAND NAME, like saying I want a COKE when I want a SODA POP. I have a "slow cooker" now which can bake cornbread or otherwise act as a tiny lidded oven. It really can get confusing if what you want to do is take all day to cook something and avoid burning it. Some things should not multitask, they should stay the same!...See MoreHelp, current oven on 30 amp circuit, need 40 amps for new oven.
