Has anyone ordered Ikea countertops online?
Comments (2)I ordered my Numerar oak online, as the closest Ikea is 12 hours from me. The 2 pieces arrived quickly at the nearest large shipping depot (Winnipeg - still 2 hours from me) and from there it was my responsibilty to pick them up. I then hired a small local company to pick them up and deliver them to me. You might want to stop reading past this point :) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Soooo, when the small local company went to pick up the counters, they were gone! The large shipping company said that a trucking company had been there earlier to pick up a parcel from Ikea for "Thompson". This could only happen to me! My last name's Thompson, and as it turns out, someone from the waaay northern town of Thompson, Manitoba also had a parcel from Ikea to be picked up. Yes, the counters went for a long ride around the province, but I did end getting them about a week later, none the worse for wear :) Dawn...See MoreIkea laminate countertop... any personal experience?
Comments (3)i actually have both the ikea laminate and home depot in stock laminates in my dental office office. they are both holding up great after just over a year. Home Deopt- has a built in back splash rim that I do not love the look of- and it makes angled cuts harder. the laminate seems thicker and more durable like a wilson art or formica, vs the ikea laminate. side trim is avail. but is not sticking too well to the cut surfaces. Ikea- liked the colors much better vs HD. the finished edge looks more granite like (squarer) and I have gotten many more compliments on the ikea counters. the only negative i could say is there is a tiny chip on the counter surface of the ikea counter- which i think the installer must have knicked. not sure what happened, but I am assuming there were some heavy tools and such being thrown on it during construction. never asked and never had any issues since. The surface does not feel as smooth as HD laminate. It seems like a thinner sheet of laminate is baked on to the particleboard underneath (opposed to a sheet of laminate glued on). Doesn't make a difference to me. I still like the ikea top better. in all, i would get the ikea tops again before the HD tops b/c i do not like the 3-4 in backsplash, ikea is much less expensive and i like the look of the ikea counters better. they seem to be equal on holding up....See MoreIkea kitchens with trash pull-outs.... what's your experience?
Comments (10)We used an 18-inch base cabinet with the deep drawer at the bottom and a shallow drawer on top. We attached a regular door front to the deep drawer hardware (can't remember exactly how we did it but it wasn't complicated). I didn't want to use the small IKEA trash bins so I looked all over to find the largest trash can that would fit the space; I can't remember exactly how big the can is (I think it was a Rubbermaid can) but it fits exactly side to side and top to bottom (without the lid) and is the perfect size for the Costco 13-gallon kitchen bags. I thought I would then look for a smaller can to fit behind for recycling but until I could find it we started putting a paper grocery sack behind the main can and it worked so well that I never looked for a smaller can. We reuse the sack until it gets too weak and then throw it into the recyling with whatever is in it. We've been using the trash set up for 2 1/2 years with no problems; the door/drawer seems as sturdy and stable as it did when we started using it. And that's with two teenagers who certainly aren't concerned about overstuffing the trash can....See MoreHas anyone installed Ikea Sektion cabinets hutch style?
Comments (10)I think it's possible (but not ideal) to put the cabinets directly on the counter and address the door clearance by adjusting the hinges so that the doors sit a bit higher. I think using a cover panel as a spacer would be best - I can't remember their exact thickness, but it's a tad under 3/4". Get one that matches the doors and it'll look like a piece of trim. Also, definitely pop the doors on the cabinets and see if it works as is! They're very easy to take off once you test it out....See MoreJustin A
