Harriet's New House, New Kitchen - Ikea cabinet smell?
Comments (7)I was just at Ikea today looking at kitchen cabinets with the intention of buying them for my kitchen. i could not help but notice a strong odor in every cabinet that I opened In the store. i believe the smell is emanating from the sides of the cabinet boxes which are constructed of particle board and glue and resin. The smell escapes from the holes drilled in the sides. I think the smell will continue to out gas for years. ikea is supposedly CARB2 and EPA compliant , I must say, it gives me pause. and it is for this reason that I won’t buy Ikea cabinets. i don’t want to pay thousands of dollars to introduce a chemical smell into my house....See MoreHow are your Ikea kitchen cabinet fronts holding up?

Comments (4)Patricia - I want to do hinged doors on 29” width, which Ikea doesn’t offer. We would have to do either sliding doors or 19/9. If they offered 29” width hinged doors I would consider Pax Ones....See MoreIkea kitchen with custom front’s suggestions
Comments (8)You will need full custom for what you want. There is no point in wasting money trying to customize Ikea unless you can build the doors yourself. Then you would just build the boxes too. The boxes are the cheap part. The doors are 10x+ the cost of boxes. So why not get better boxes foe very little more? Look at Omega frameless. Better everything. For not much more than you pay for RTA with you doing all the work. https://www.houzz.com/discussions/3032345/barker-cabinets-kitchen-designer-layout-help...See MoreUser
