Thank you for these details! We live a 2 hour ferry ride away from Ikea, so we ordered through an installation company, without being able to go into a showroom ourselves (I know that sounds insane, but I had seen the old system so I knew I wanted Ikea for my kitchen). As I write this, workmen are in my house installing. So excited to see them, I could puke!

We chose the Grimslov off-white. I do like the Rasdal graining.

When I get home, I will take some pics of the install so far and start a new thread, so anyone who is interested can see....

robo - are you in Canada? Rasdal is only listed on the Canadian website, not the US site, and is not being sold in the US. I hope for next year.

stephanj - I can't wait to see your pictures! We're hoping to buy cabinets during the fall sale, and we'll likely go with one of the Grimslov colors or Bodbyn gray.

Thanks for posting these. I like seeing them snapped by a regular camera without all the fancy lighting of a photoshoot. I really like the Hittarp. I have to say--I don't understand the point of the drawer within a drawer idea. Why would I want to open 2 drawers to get to anything? Am I missing the functionality of this?

What modellie said - I saw the rasdal door at ikea burbank a couple months ago and they said it was a mistake and the US wasn't getting it. I hope that has changed because I thought the rasdal was the best looking door they had.

mermanmike - we are using some hidden drawers in our DR built-ins because we want it to look like a hutch, but really it is going to be a desk with file drawers etc. We wanted a sleek exterior and to hide the function a bit. But agree, I would never use the hidden drawers for something I was accessing daily, like cutlery!

We had the domsjo single bowl at our last house and it's looks the same to me. The double bowl has groves at the back. We have it in this house. I hate it btw. It's a paint to have to keep each individual groove cleaned. I love that baby poo yellow fronts. It would absolutely not go with my house at all, but love that. I have found that in the last few years the products at Ikea have really changed. We did our first Ikea kitchen in 2002. Our second in 2007 and for this house we used the bases only to save time for our custom fronts. We did have to build all the uppers though. I was a little disappointed that the quality didn't seem to be as good as it used to. I suppose that's how it goes with most things though, to keep cost low they need to go with different suppliers. I will say though that drawer within the drawer is definitely a cool feature.

Oh, I am in Canada! Sorry - the rasdal is definitely my favorite so it's sad you aren't getting it!

mermanmike - I think some people fall prey to what someone, I forget who, called the tyranny of the elevation. They want everything completely symmetrical because looking at it in harsh black and white on the elevation, that's what looks best. So that would include having the same size of drawer fronts across a bank of cabinets regardless of what the drawers contain.

The hittarp really looked nice in a rustic kind of way. More country looking IMO than the stat, which may or may not be someone else's personal preference. The availability of beadboard cover panels or 3x8 fridge panels also makes panelling the back of your island a lot easier!

I have to say I don't like the Hittarp at all. In person I thought it looked über cheap. I wasn't a big fan of Stat, but I definitely liked it better than Hittarp.

It's true that the single domsjo ought to be exactly the same, but I agree that somehow it's not. It's not anything to do with the detailing, but something about the overall effect is squatter and wider and shallower, even though the dimensions are the same as before, supposedly.

I think that's what I dislike about it. It doesn't look to me like a beadboard door; it looks like a slab door with a piece of beadboard stuck on it.

mermanmike - the drawers within drawers help to streamline the kitchen look, probably most important to people with modern or minimalist kitchen styles. Your needs for the inside of a run of cabinets does not dictate what the outside looks like.

Writersblock, I know what you mean.... The unframed beadboard is such a different look. But to my eyes it looked quite quaint and cute. But also a bit odd.

I like the look of beadboard, but I wasn't a fan of this one in person. I preferred the stat for sure. I also like the look of that "hutch". We did something similar in our old place. We were able to get a bunch of our frames in as-is which saved loads of money. We ended up not using two appliance cabinets so we stacked them on top of one another and put the capita legs on the bottom. It was 12" deep, perfect for cookbooks and I think total height was about 54" with the legs.

Now, if they matched the beadboard on the Hittarp with what your pics of the Rasdal, it may be perfect. I love the pattern of the Hittarp, but with no wood grain, the full effect seems very plastic to me when viewed as a whole. Too bad about the Rasdal--it does look like what I want! Anyone want to ship to Denver?

Just went to IKEA yesterday --- and didn't see the Rasdal.
On another note: Every time see the Lixtorp (or former Adel) white or the Bodbyn, I dislike the plasticky uniform look around the edges or the "filled" in grooves/edges. Anybody else bothered by that?

The drawer within a drawer design could definitely facilitate a streamlined look. Good point.

Re: domsjo. I have the double bowl version, and I agree that the drain rack in the back is incredibly annoying to clean. The grooves could be half as deep and still very effective at draining. I do love having the function of the drain, though; I always have things sitting on there to dry--paring knives, measuring spoons etc.

The domsjo looks a little different to me too, and I am wondering if it is related to the corners on the apron front. The sink I am looking at in my kitchen now has very rounded corners, but the pic above makes the corners look much more squared off. It could just be an illusion, but they may have changed this a bit.

Another reason for the drawer within a drawer is sometimes you have small items that you don't want to waste as much space. It gives you an option to have those without a super short drawer front.

The corners on the single domsjo look the same to me. Well at least as I remember it. We bought the original single in 2007 and then bought a replacement since we cracked it right before we sold in 2012. Sometimes memories are a little hazy. The back does look slightly deeper though. Not sure if that's the picture or not.
