Paint the lattice panel underneath to match the deck color -- the white stands out too much, IMO. good ideas from jdez! Could you put up a pergola on the deck? (for all that Tuscan sunshine, lol)

I love all the ideas so far. As for the pergola, should it cover the entire deck or should it just be on part of the deck? I was thinking the side furthest from the stairs but I don't know how functional it would be in terms of providing shade since that would be on the north side of the deck. Thoughts?

The white siding is a problem, IMO. Could you paint additional lattice and position it in front of the siding? Perhaps the same color you paint the lattice underneath the deck?

Pergola covering the entire deck would have to be custom, I think, as it seems you have a large curved edge. This might be far out of your budget, but would look amazing. If you want the pergola to provide shade, you certainly could place it wherever it would work for you. But just having a square/rectangular pergola over your dining set would add the desired atmosphere, and you likely could buy a ready-made one anywhere that would be budget-friendly.

I personally like kswl2's idea of adding painted latticework to the siding, if it is possible. Either the same color you use under the deck, or perhaps even a lovely blue-y-green... Do come back with photos of the transformation!!

And don't forget the Tuscan colour palette in your cushions, accents and the idea of a slight rustic look to your furnishings (such as the fountain upthread). The colours that would look great on a deck would be golden yellows, sky blues, ochre (deep red) This sounds like a fun project.

Not sure you want to go with a Tuscan style since your home doesn't appear to be Tuscan with the siding & the brick. That doesn't mean you can have a spectacular deck that complements the style of your home. Can't tell from your photos, how large is your deck over all? Do you grill? Do you want an eating area and a lounge area? Which direction does the deck face? All these items factor into what can be recommended.

Also I agree that the lattice needs a coat of paint to blend in.

Well, since Beverly said it first.....I also think Tuscan is a discordant look for your deck. White siding and brick are traditional and timeless. Tuscan as a deocrating style is over even where I live (in the boonies). Classic iron furniture and beautiful potted plants, even a pergola as suggested above, would be lovely. Or a classic striped awning?

Is the wood painted or have a solid stain? I might paint it darker regardless of your style direction. At least on my screen, it looks a pale orange.

I would divide the deck visually into two areas: one for eating and one for relaxation. Start with a polypropelene outdoor flat rug to establish the lounge area. Add a lounge sofa, a couple of lounge chairs & coffee table for entertaining. Add a grill if you cook outside, maybe a retractable awning if you face West and sun is an issue. Or you can consider an offset umbrella for the conversation area or one for over the dining table. Maybe a small water feature to add ambiance if you have electrical you can tie into on the deck.

No large bushes as they attract mosquitoes. Some nice outdoor landscape lighting to add to the mood and it could be spectacular. Think of this area as another room that complements the style of your home. Furniture from one side to the other should coordinate.

I don't think rosemary attracts mosquitoes? In fact, it appears to repel them.

Hey, curve, it's your deck and your "vision". I see no reason why you cannot do a Tuscan theme there, even if your house style is not exactly "compatible" with that. If you love Tuscan, go for it! Who's to say that it isn't appropriate, the fashion police? Sit them down with a glass of wine and tell them to relax and enjoy your beautiful space. Don't give up on something that later you might wish you'd gone ahead and done. Life's too short. In the end, it's what you and your wife want to do that will make you happy. GO FOR IT!!

Would you be up for painting the siding~while I like white siding, it isn't conducive in bringing in a Tuscan vibe. What you've already done works and looksgreat. Bringing in iron/wood elements would give more of the rustic feel. Here is something I have in mind for use in the railing. If you could cut out a few of the vertical wood 'spindles., and add an iron/wood decorative piece, it would detract from it's modern look. Using such decorative wood/iron, or just iron pieces here and there(don't get too carried away!)would add to the Tuscan look you're craving.

Keep in mind the wood could be painted. ;)
