Anyone else not liking this "new and improved" houzz thingy?
Comments (85)I'm with prairiemoon2 on the privacy thing. I've already had the creepy experience of houzz emailing me to one email address when I signed up with a different one, and I'm not pleased. I hate the "like" buttons - they seem totally counter to the idea of people actually communicating with each other in a way that goes hand in hand with not being able to reply directly to a comment ("click 'like' instead!"). Bottom line: This new format really represents everything I hate about the social internet (intrusiveness, the feeling of your every move being tabulated and tracked, your method of interaction being subtly manipulated, etc.), most of which GW was blissfully free from in, as slowjane put it, its "web 1.0" way. So, I guess we were lucky for a while, and now I'll either adjust or be gone. And fyi, I did use the like buttons in this thread, but only as feedback for the houzz staff in case they're paying attention to people's reactions to the new site : )...See MoreNew houzz look
Comments (39)I found both sites last September when I began planning a remodel that is just about to start. Houzz was eye candy and inspiration but intimidating in all the perfection. GW was real life, been in the trenches people detailing their projects. I spent hours learning about stuff I never thought I needed to know. Now as I am about to begin my own projects, I feel assured in my decisions. I don't have the pleasure of all the friendships that have been forged over years. I wish I did and maybe one day I will. But both sites helped me so much with decisions I needed to make. For me its not a question about sterile feeling because I am just happy to find friendly, knowledgeable people who happen to like many of the same things I do and were willing to share. Most of what I read that people don't like comes down to how the website is designed. They (houzz) had a stand alone, successful site. Just imagine the work that has gone on behind the scenes to make a pretty smooth transition, all things considered. I feel they are genuinely trying to marry the two sites but that takes time and patience plus a tremendous amount of I want to poke out my eyeballs work. If all of this has been too much, too overwhelming, too sad, take a break but there are are so many who read and learn from your posts. Someone in the world needs you and your knowledge or friendly postings. I know I did and I am so happy you once took the time to share. I really do appreciate the whole community....See Morekitchens houzz help please help houzz kitchens
Comments (15)Mine came back after I did a search for a thread in kitchens. No threads from other forums showed up. Once I had found the thread I was looking for and clicked back it still showed the old GW kitchen URL. I copied it, pasted the link in my bar above. Whenever Houzz redirects me to their awful URL, I get back by clicking on my link. So far that has worked every time. Comments (34)Just popped here again to relive the problems of the past almost year now. Still have "like button" issues described above between the app and web versions, which has plagued so many forum users for quite some time. I still get 404 error messages when trying to load some pages from web... those seem to be related to the size of the thread, amount of photos perhaps on those threads? and is sporadic. Sometimes pages load fine, other times, it takes multiple attempts for a thread to load up. Posting photos has gotten somewhat better, but I still need to use a workaround (ie I use my iphone app to post photos, and the web/updated Chrome to read/write/edit comments)... Posting photos through my laptop using the web is a PITA bc I discovered I have to size down each photo in my library, but I refuse to switch to using app only bc I hate that you cannot edit comments from the app. So my workaround is that I post photos with the app on the iphone and then switch to my laptop to use web version for commenting, reading, writing and editing comments in the threads. I have to use two devices and two different platforms to make it work the way it used to... What a totally ridonkulous way to operate. SMH!...See MoreIdaClaire
