16 year old grand kids are such a challenge
Comments (29)He will learn his lesson on those shoes. You are right-it will get much worse. Sometimes stubborn teens just have to learn for themselves. My oldest is 19-I remember a few times when I just couldn't reason with her. Later she would admit-'you were right-why didn't I listen?' Every time he looks at that shoe and the bigger tear, I bet the regret will grow. Thats how people learn, by making mistakes. Its irritating the older I get, trying to save someone the trouble, but sometimes you just cant-and then its time to walk away and let the chips fall where they may! I think you did a great job-tried to reason, then realized he had to learn to live with an unreasonable decision, and you walked away. Bravo! Believe me-it will come back to haunt him. I think thats my favorite picture of the two of you!!...See More2-3 year old fig trees not ripening?! + Rooted small fig branch!!
Comments (4)Your trees were pruned to be trees, not bushes. They appear to be at least 3 years old. Really hard to tell age because some trees are more vigorous than others. For instance, I had a Fig in a pot for two years, then planted it in ground. Suddenly that little thing trippled in size and it's trunk(s) became thick. Now it's huge, and I think nobody would guess it's only 4 years old. It's got about 15 figs per branch and there are a lot of branches. Every year, as your trees grow older, they will put out more figs. Really hard to know what a potted fig can produce. A lot depends on variety too. I don't have LSU Purple, but my Celeste is very productive. At 2 years old, it has about 20 figs, but it's still in it's pot and has worked it's way into the ground. This year when it's dormant, it will be planted in ground. You'll just have to be patient and wait. The figs will come. We get mild snow fluries here in winter maybe for a day or two, so planting in containers isn't important, but many who live where it snows have to bring their containers in for protection from freeze. I know you rent so want to take them with you. Good plan! :-)...See More5 one year old seedling Meiwa kumquat trees starting 2018
Comments (44)The fruitless under the can light Meiwa has finished its growth spurt with a total of 44 linear inches of new twigs with fresh leaves. It is now tied for the second biggest of seed grown Meiwa kumquat trees I picked the fruit off the other Meiwa tree at half ripe and the skin was sweet and the flesh was very juicy but not much flavor in sweet or sour. I was afraid a mouse would get it and it was the only fruit from a seed grown tree. I also picked all the much ripper fruit from my grafted meiwa and the fruit was sweet skinned with semi sweet tart flesh. very much worth eating. This will actually be the last entry for this thread from Me and I will continue this discussion in "4 seed grown 2 year old Meiwa kumquat tree for year 2019". I will leave a link to the new thread when I start it. forget what I said above. I did not expect this much change in one of the trees. Steve...See More4 seed grown 3 year old Meiwa kumquat trees.
Comments (16)I feed them Miracle Gro 24-8-16 half strength weekly or when needed. They get 16 hours of light daily from the time they come inside till they go outside. lots of light. The temperature inside the can is 10F higher than the room air and is humid. Light put on new shoot outside in early fall. Seedlings under a bucket light with a daylight 23 watt CFL. Temperature rise 20F. 85F inside. 3/4 of the growth happen during fall, winter, and spring. This gives me about a 6 year old plant in 2 years. Beyond this the grow is only a little better than normal. Steve...See MoreLinda
