I told my DH we should clean out our two coat closets by the front door, so maybe we'll work on that this week. I have a bunch of craft stuff stored on the floor of one closet from when my kids were in grade/jr. high school--they are now 37 and 34! Also odds and ends, old boots, old flower seeds from when I gardened more obsessively, hats/mittens/gloves, etc., etc.

Jkayd, I also have two carousel cabinets in my kitchen that hold stuff that I really don't need to keep. If the closets don't get done, maybe I'll continue in the kitchen, too.

I am still moving along here. This past week I managed to get more drawers and closets gone through and even went through some items at my dad's yesterday. I have a many more items marked for the garage sale - 3 weeks away now, and some items to give away and some that have been tossed.

I would have been getting ready for the garage sale anyway, but this thread has given me the incentive to look at things differently and put more thought into do I really need or use this or that and be ready to give up more items. Also, I am finding some things I did not know I had and that I can use and of course many more that I do not need nor will I ever use.

Good luck to all of you who are sorting through your belongings and I hope we can keep this going for the full 15 weeks.

I am just finishing up on painting my sons room and will be getting rid of more stuff as I put things back in there.

This past week I got rid of more books, some baskets that I don't use, placemats and napkins that I don't use, and a bunch of softballs and baseballs (went to the "Free Stuff" table). 5 plastic bags full of dried out highlighters and pens (to the trash). 3 boxes of recycled junk mail and catalogs. Six more rolls of architectural prints and some cardboard boxes (those are now mulch in the garden - hopefully they will slow down the weeds).

Hopefully this week my neighbor will be available to take a pickup load of no longer working electronics to the recycling center. Right now they are piled in the middle of the living room.

Some of you commented on decluttering the kitchen. I can tell you after having gone thru a kitchen remodel and getting rid of all the stuff I never used it has been such a great feeling when using my kitchen tools - everything has a place and whatever I have is used.

The hobby room is coming along - though not as quickly as I would like. I did manage to go thru the grandkids' story books they have outgrown and counted over 30 books that I'll donate to the local childrens' library. I have boxed up around 60 items to be donated or sold.

OK done. Both carousels and a drawer cleaned. Threw a few things away but my son's girl friend, I think there is a ring in the future, mentioned one day she was needing "tupperware" containers. I washed several, actually many, ones I don't need and will offer them to her. I'm sure she will take them.

I needed to pep talk myself. A lot going on this week and I didn't feel good a couple days but week 4 is done and it feels good.

Since it's the end of the week and our electricity was out this morning (i.e., no Internet!), I decided I'd better get started on one of the coat closets (to keep my 'promise' to you and myself). As I said, craft items from the 1980s & 90s. Throwing lots away, will donate usable items to one of our local thrift shops. Anyone else hate to throw away Christmas/greeting cards??? I have a basketful on the shelf to go through to take out any photos before tossing the cards.

I am sorry to say, I never got past week two. It was hard to come up with 30 items total, but I did... and it is still all sitting here.

I promise, to take that box to Goodwill next week one day, when I get out.

I may try to pull more stuff together, but really don't see the 15 things per week happening. There just isn't enough STUFF in my possession since my moves... to pull it off.

You're lucky, Moni, that you can't find more things to get rid of. I'm just starting--more than 28 years of accumulated stuff stored in each closet.

Freecycle has been my go-to here. I've gotten rid of a ton of hangers, old light fixtures, extraneous dishes and glassware and other assorted, no longer wanted items. The only things no one seems to want are older tube-type TV sets (working) and VCR tapes (original Disney & Sesame Street movies, not copies). My husband wants to keep everything but I'm prying his fingers off some of his old 'stuff'.
