Has anyone used ready to assemble (RTA) Kitchen cabinets
Comments (20)You have gotten confused on the details of the cabinets you were looking at online as rta the face frames are 3/4 thick and the plywood boxes are 1/2 thick. I own and operate a kitchen and bath store in orlando. I specialize in the affordable products as well as having high end products to offer. I often wonder about those that post on here as to why RTA is not considered more. I can ship out directly to anywhere in the US 75 different RTA cabines that are assembled by the company that stocks them before they are put on the truck! You do not even have to put them together. I also have several domestic brands that are in the same price range. Many do not even use cam locks any more they are to be glued and stapled like most domestic brands are that are not in the Wode Mode business model as cabinet makers. I have one brand that ships out assembled with a lifetime warranty. They even do inset door styles that everyone seems to want on here. I have another brand that imports 60" wide by 66" wood hoods with raised panel arch vallance over the cook top and pull out spice racks in the towers. They are not as nice as stanici but they are not the cost either. Both have their place in society. I offer out of my store 20' of cabinetry in any configuration with 30" 36" or 42" wall cabinets with crown and light rail 10 level 1 granite stones to chose from removal of exsisting kitchen, installation of new kitchen and appliances painting of the kitchen area and any knobs you want from my supplier which has 25,000 different ones for $7,000-$10,500 I have inset door styles, flat slab bamboo, raised panels, applied moldings, painted cabinets, glazes, shakers, no name I have at least 1 of everything some will be looking for. When I am done with their kitchen only someone in the industry will be able to tell if the cabinets are imports most of the time. The trade offf is you are dealing with in stock product. No 2 companies stock the exact same cabinet list. It is just the nature of the beast. You can be a smart shopper and find the best price that gives you what you like or you can go for brand name recognition for bragging rights when compnay is over and conviently forget to tell your friends you look wealthy but have no retirement funds cause you buy everything on name brand to feel more important. RTA will not suit everyone but the truth is it fits most Beaver Cleaver neighborhoods very well. Which is where most of americans live that can afford to remodel thier kitchen...See MoreAnyone have experience with JSI rta cabinets? Essex or Dover?
Comments (12)After a lot of research and agonizing over our cabinet decision, we finally ordered Barker RTA in natural cherry with conversion varnish. In doing so, we saved thousands over our other quotes which will allow us to purchase higher-end appliances. We have already assembled them, and are in the process of hanging them this coming week (knock on wood on the timing). Based on our experience, I can say without reservation that Barker cabinets ARE definitely top quality USA made cabinets and are VERY easy to assemble....See MoreRTA Conestoga inset vs full overlay assembly? Anyone with experience?
Comments (14)Hi, I built Conestoga for my kitchen in 2006. I used plain inset uppers and full-overlay bases. The boxes are exactly the same irrespective of the door-fitting style. I used normal Euro-style 35mm hinges on the bases, and old-fashion loose-pin full-mortise hinges on the uppers. There are butt hinges sold that do not require the mortising, which is extremely exacting and time consuming. The surface-type butt hinges are also adjustable. I would recommend the average DIY-er on a schedule to use that more forgiving type. The no-mortise ones are also found cheaper, my butt hinges were $22/pr. Comments (15)We just finished a kitchen remodel using RTA cabinet store. The experience was mostly positive. We primarily were attracted to the lower price and that they were solid plywood boxes with solid wood doors and faces. however I would recommend you read the product descriptions carefully. Although they advertise no partical board anywhere, some of the painted lines did mention versions of partical board in their description. I agree that not all homes warrant 100K kitchens. We have a modest home and wanted to be realistic with our home value. For a 10×20 u shaped kitchen with island we spent about 8K for our cabinets including all the extra pull-out and organizers, decorative panels, and crown mouldings. I'll give you a tip to watch for sales, we were able to get our cabinets for 25% off during a black Friday sale. they had the same sale again around new years. I was my own kitchen designer and found their online design tool helpful. We did hire the labor to assemble and install, but our contractor said they assembled without issue. The materials did seem to be solid wood and plywood as advertised. the insides and sides of all the cabinets are finished. We have had issues with a couple of drawers coming of the glides relatively easily. the hardware is all soft close and functions well, the drawers we are having issues with don't have much in them and will lift off the glides if you don't open them carefully. not a huge deal, but kind of annoying. I think the additional weight of more items in the drawers solves the problem. So, shipping was kind of a pain, but now that my kitchen is done I'm not so bothered by that. the cabinets came quickly and they almost over-communicate with you on the delivery process. our cabinets came and the packaging was very damaged. surprisingly there were only a few items with damage. their claims policy was kind of a pain. You only have 48 hours to open and examine all of your cabinets, and file claims with photos. picture my hubby and I up until 3 am going piece by piece through around 40 heavy boxes with multiple pieces to get our claim in on time. then their online claim form wouldn't submit. I filled out the forms multiple times only for them not to go through because of issues with the website. I was able to reach a live person easily the next day (nice) who honored our claim beyond that 48 hour period because they were having website issues. they ultimately replaced all the pieces that remain visible after assembly or that might affect stability. they will not replace anything cosmetic that is not visable after assembly, like the back or top panels or shelves. I had one other issue with a can of matching stain not coming with the shipment. it took several calls and emails to finally get that stain a month or two later. We needed it for our island legs and a couple shelves my hubby built that we wanted to match. All this seemed like a big deal while I was dealing with it, but overall I'm a satisfied customer in the end....See Moreannseidel1
