Smith's Yellow

Any new information on Smith's Yellow? HMF says 17-25 petals, but I have seen reports of as many as 100 or more. Does anyone have a contemporary reference with a reliable petal count?

In Virginia we have a pale yellow Noisette of the right age with a good Virginia (plantation)pedigree, but it does not have 100 petals and I don't recall that the flowers have trouble opening. It seems to survive cold winters easily, is easy to root, and has dark-green serrated leaves that remind one of the leaves of Devoniensis.

Are there any good candidates for Smith's Yellow? A DNA test could easily identify a parent of Devoniensis.
