"Warts" on potato leaves

I am growing potatoes in three different containers. All the seed potatoes were certified disease free. The red pontiacs have been hilled twice and are going strong. The other two containers have russets planted a few weeks later. On Saturday, I added 4-6 inches of potting mix to each russet container. This morning I found that all of the russet plants in both containers had raised wart-like bumps on their leaves. The bumps only show on top. The underside of the leaves looks fine. None of the red potatoes show any of the bumps. What do you think is doing this? The potting mix I used was the same mix I have been using in all my veggie containers. It's a modified 5-1-1 with store bought soilless mix and pine bark fines.

Can't say without seeing them but Google images of 'leaf edema potato leaves' and see if it matches.

I have seen edema on another plant before, so that was my first thought. This does look like the photos I found, although most of the "warts" were on the underside of the leaves and these are on top. But this happened overnight to almost all the leaves on 10 different plants. It's shocking. In the other case I saw, a houseplant, the leaves were ruined but the plant was fine. I hope the same happens here.

Fingernail polish does not work! However, six weeks of diligently applying duck tape (heated by a match prior to application to get the glue sticky so that it would stay on for several days) after first dabbing ultra colloidal silver spray (can be purchased at whole foods) with a q-tip. Keep the tape on for as long as it will stick. The longer you leave it on, the more progress you will make each time. Soak feet and pumice the wart area each time you have to change the tape. The warts will look like black hard seeds when the get close to the surface. Six weeks of this and I was rid of 15 warts on the left foot, and 5 on the right. I had surgergy to get rid of the first wart. That almost killed me, there was no way I could have 20 warts removed by surgery. This was a much better alternative, and it absolutely worked, but you have to be diligent. Duck tape alone didn't work. The process didn't start working until I added the colloidal silver, and until I heated the tape. The glue from the tape coupled with the silver irritates the wart to the point that it works it's way out of the foot. Hope this helps!

I measured in my deck is 24 inches off the ground. First step up is 13 inches. The pot is 22 inches high. The green fine trails down to the tech which if I am OK get on the deck with the easy to get it to VINE. The purple VINE does not trail down the 13 inch pot. It looks like just sell used at the top of the plant I’ve been eaten. I thought possibly a deer because it would be the right height to eat the leaves on the top. It’s just that we seldom ever get deer in our backyard playing on the main road. Once this winter we saw their foot prints come in the back gate, and turned around When they saw there was no other way out and Went back down the driveway and down the main road (Warwick Avenue).

Likely they're leaf galls of some sort. (But would need pictures confirm that.) If so, unlikely to kill the tree. Something else is going on. The leaf galls are distracting your neighbor from the main problem.

I too have something similar on my weeping willow which is how I saw your post. The 'warts' I suspect are called galls and either contain midges, mites or tiny wasps (no mention of them being harmful). The treatment for each type is different depending on the plant but generally for trees advice is no treatment or cause for concern. I'm having the exact same issue. Did you ever find the answer? Doesn't look much like the online photos of edema. Does look exactly like you photo (but worse )

Yes. I'm pretty sure it was edema. We had record breaking rain in May last year when it happened. The leaves with bumps never lost them or died, but new growth didn't have bumps. The plants continued to grow and produced plenty of potatoes. Unfortunately about 10 percent of the potatoes also had "bumps". I peeled them off and they were fine.

Looks like edema to me, I got an identical presentation on one of my tomato variety seedlings indoors this year. The plant is fine now.
