I'm very odor sensitive also. 1 night yrs ago I jumped out of bed in middle of night & ran to the kitchen & pilot light was out on 1 side of stove. DH didn't smell anything. Same thing happened next night & DH insisted in going to kitchen 1st(I could smell it all the way out) & sure enough it was out again. He smelled it right as he got down to see if it was out.I took it completely apart & cleaned gas hole with needle. If you had work done ,it could be glue/contact cement, particle board fumes, even if painted, stain or varnish used on cabinets. Try bowls of vinegar on counters for few days to see if that helps. If it was in your nose it's odd that it only happens at home. You say perfumes bother you also. My bro. when in grade school always had to sit next to teacher(smallest kid in class we figured) in auditorium. He always came home sick. We said it must be her perfume. Mom wore perfume tho & it didn't bother him. As adult he asked me to make his favorite "childhood" cookies. Molasses crinkles- he got really sick & vomited. Rest of us were loving them. Then he got some chili & got sick & went to ER ,they called to get the ingredients of the cafe's homemade chili, it had ginger in it. So I did some checking on Internet & in my medical books, several I got from Dr., well,ginger is part of any number of perfumes. So it took about 15 yrs to find out what made my DB so sick. Some folks are super sensitive & may vomit, get headaches or migraines, dizzy etc. Hope you get to bottom of it.If vinegar doesn't work next thing I would do is wipe down everything with vinegar water, or whatever cleaner safe to use on things. Maybe rag with something on it was used to wipe off a little dust or a drip. Good Luck!

We had wood floors sanded and then 1 coat of Bona Intense seal and 2 coats Traffic HD applied. I saw the products. All 3 coats were done same day. Floor continues to smell 12 weeks later even though we aired out home with fans for weeks. Smell is less than at the beginning but still there and my wife feels light headed. Noticed when we get humidity to around 40% smell is less but starts again if humidity goes to 50-55%. Finish is rough but seems to resist water stains. How do we get smell to stop? I can put my nose on floor and know that is the smell. Any insight would be very appreciated!

Is this a newly installed floor or is it an older floor that has just had a sand/refinish done? By the technical specs, this is an oil modified polyurethane with VOC content of 550g/L (too high for California or the other 11 CARB compliant states). It has excellent coverage per gallon (that's a good sign) of 500 - 600sf (depending on which coat it is). The patch/filler is definitely lifting out. The house might be too dry for the floor. You will want to pump up the RH to sit between 45%-50%. I would say the floors are drying out (winter time) and the patch is being stretched is crumbling. Sadly this is what happens to patching material. It eventually crumbles and falls out. To slow this process down (you will never stop it), you will need to maintain the humidity in the high 40% range. Forever. The floors look well coated. I'm not seeing anything that concerns me re: coverage. You have a lovely looking floor. The stain is even, the coating is even, The floors look happy but they are certainly drying out and the patch/filler is coming out...which is something that happens to all wood floors that have filler.

At this point, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you do nothing. This is a brand new finish. It will not perform to the level of the old finish for a little bit of time. An old oil finish (lets say 15 years of 'hardening') is going to be much HARDER than a fresh water based finish. You must be patient with this. Whomsoever 'let' you back in on that floor after ONE DAY is the one you need to speak with. Bona MEGA needs 10 days to reach a full cure (that means it is no longer soft enough to peel back with a fingernail). Bona Traffic HD cures in 5 days (again no longer soft enough to peel back with a fingernail). Please respect the youth that is this finish. If it took 15 years for the old finish to perform the way you say it did, you will need to allow this finish the same amount of patience for this new finish. Remember: a floor finish is a floor finish. It's chemical characteristics will not change. The laws of physics and chemistry will not change. The only part of this equation that can 'change' is the human being. Either accept the finish for what it is (super young and needing time and patience) or pay for another finish that will suit YOU.
