I know around 95% of the corkies here think it's great, but I'm having a little trouble deciding if its going to be regretted as a flooring in a kitchen. We have only a cat, so the worst issues would be water leaks from dishwashers, etc, or lots of detrius (small rocks or wet leaves) before we can get our shoes off from the outside. We also see very little date on Consumer Reports, but did note the Lisbon is rated as poor in most areas. Home Depot doesn't recommend cork, and they have only a few samples in their back area..definitely needing a floating floor, with all the potential problems with the subfloor being uneven-our whole house is. Instead of everyone bragging about how great it is, how bout a scale rating for different mills/brands/lines...there aren't that many out there, specifically for consumers rather than buyers wanting to sound 'smart'. It would be interesting to see links. My guess is all this blather will fall apart when using it in a kitchen, but we still like the look of Earth Concepts Natural-very swirly, like burled elm.

(1) Laminate WILL NOT stand up to big dogs. I have a breed that is huge - 29" at the shoulder 110 -130 lbs. Water bowl spills kill it. Potty accidents kill it. (2) wood-look laminate floors -- I will either walk away or make an offer low enough to cover ripping that junk out and replacing it with anything else. It is NOT wood. It is sawdust that is glued together. The a photograph of wood is glued to the saw dust. The plastic is poured over it. Absolute low rent garbage. $20,000 to put down hardwood flooring....... WOW! That is nuts for anything less than 1600++ sq ft of oak or maple that had to be stained and finished. FInd a Lumber Liquidators store. Get some unfinished pine - even down to the $1.39 a sq ft. Get some mastic. Get some stain. Get some real varnish - like McCloskey's Marine and do 4 coats. Get a circular saw. Put down the flooring. If you need to level, get some underlayment - adds about $1300 to the project. Pay your handyman $20 an hour. Work alongside him getting boards, putting down mastic, spreading stain and varnish, doing the light sand between coats with 150-200 grit and wiping with a tack cloth...... if it takes 2 weeks (huge am0unt of time) you pay him $1600. Total cost for the whole house - $5200 -7300 if you do it and $6800 -9100 if you have help. (and you won't be doing the bath or kitchen....so sq ft would be less)

Jessica - you are correct that a finished house is more sellable than an unfinished house. The point you asked about was "More flooring or do baseboards". Then you stated that you don't plan on selling any time soon. That means you have TIME to finish the house...at a later date. For me, that means you should spend the money on extending the flooring into EVERY SPACE you want it to be in. You can always add baseboards and trim anytime in the next 7-15 years...or even right before you list the house. A house does not need trim. But it does need flooring. Since you are not selling this home soon (soon for us is 6mon - 5 years) then you should get as much of the flooring done in one go. If you wait too long to add flooring into one or two more rooms you will be faced with the 100% reality that you cannot find more of the same floor purchase. And that is where 60% of all Houzz flooring renovation issues come from. "Help! Home Depot discontinued my flooring and I need to finish my house!" Yep. If you read enough of these forums, you will find out that man made floors (like vinyl, laminate, engineered hardwood, etc) have a shelf-life of 18-24 months. After that you will never see them again. Ever. If you purchase all the flooring RIGHT NOW and install it...you are financially FURTHER ahead than if you stop with 2 - 3 rooms to go. In the future, when you want to add those few rooms, you will find you cannot find the product. And THAT'S when you discover the financial/design pickle you are in. Please do yourself a favour and install all the vinyl flooring in every room you want it in. You will thank us for it later.

That's so damn cool. Can you list it on Facebook Marketplace? I would definitely say there's a buyer out there, The issue is shipping which is why I suggested Marketplace. Or craigslist.
