I think Certainty has severe limitations. For me, it shows significant stunting of KBG and even with repeated applications does not reliably result in kill (and by that time, some poa may have gone to seed). If you look at Monsanto literature, poa control in bermudagrass is applied at a significantly higher rate than poa trivialis control in KBG. Poa annua control in KBG is not listed. I am guessing this is because Certainty rates for poa annua control will also kill KBG. PROGRASS. I keep waiting for the stuff to come down in price so lawn enthusiasts like ourselves can try it out. The killer is actually not the cost...it's that it's packaged in 2.5Gal bottles. For most grass types, the published application rates for poa annua control is 1.5-4 oz per 1000sq.ft. A litre of the stuff will last the typical homeowner YEARS, even with the recommended repeated applications (assuming spot spray of affected area). Cost: $460 shipped from EH Griffith. A 2.5 Gal bottle can be split into 9 individual litres (not sure what the difference is between gallon and US Gal in conversion calculators). That would amount to $51 per L or $60 shipped--maybe a little more to get containers and for packaging/handling. Would anyone be interested in this? Yes, if you have a desirable lawn of KBG, and you also have Poa annua that is undesirable in your KBG lawn, then Poa annua is a weed. The reason I say it like that is because in some parts of the country (pacific northwest, northern california coast), Poa annua is a desirable turf. I will need to see a picture of the seedheads to know if it is Poa annua or not. And yes, there are other types of bluegrass.

It is grass seed. It is your KB lawn going to seed. As the seed heads mature, they will spread into a more panicle shape. In fact, it would be unusual for your lawn not to go to seed this time of year. It is not harmful and there is nothing you can do to prevent it (although some have used growth inhibitors to try reducing them). Unfortunately they do nothing for the look of the lawn. Is this a new to you KB lawn?

Despite what I'm being told I am pretty much giving up hope that all these seed heads are coming from my turfgrass. I've been researching poa annua a little bit more and images I see online look very much like what I have going on in my lawn. Here are a few more pictures of my lawn... Opinions? If it is poa annua (I'm convinced that it is), I can't for the life of me figure out why this is happening. My lawn was started from seed in September 2013. I didn't have any poa annua problems in 2014 (nor any of these seed heads). I mow high and I water infrequently. And the kicker is I see nothing like this in any of my neighbors lawns, none of whom take lawncare seriously...so why would it take hold in my thick, high lawn but not in theirs? Was it mixed into the seed the landscaper used but didn't take hold until now? I overseeded last Sept but I know it wasn't in that seed because I had a few bare spots I fixed and those spots are free of these seed heads. And what do I do about it? Kill everything and restart? Keep spraying Tenacity in hopes I beat it? Or, since it's an annual, will it all die this summer, then use preemergents more aggressively?
