Did you smoke when you were younger?
Comments (26)I'm 63 and I;ve never, ever, smoked. Married to a life-long non-smoker. Cigarettes are not allowed in our house (or farm as they can transmit tobacco mosaic virus to our crops). I loathe cigarette smoking. Was thrilled when in the mid/early '80s smoking was banned in restuarants and then all workplaces in NY state. Once dated (semi-seriously) a man who smoked, but broke it off because I realized that he would never quit and I could never live with the smoking. Nowadays I won't even go to homes where smoking is going to happen, nor ride in cars with active smoking. (And prefer not to even get in cars where smoking has occurred.) My grandmother who never smoked a cigarette either died of lung cancer (possibly radon exposure or second-hand risk). My non-smoking husband had a serious heart attack (he grew up with smokers), but my late father who did smoke for many years (though I didn't live many of them with him, thankfully, as I was in boarding school) did not die from lung disease or cancer. Go figure! Even without the disease risk, it's still gross to me. L....See MoreWhen You Were In Grade School Did You....?
Comments (26)I went to a one room school house. We had to make our own valentine boxes. We had to give everyone a valentine and I remember we didnt want to give too mushy of one to some of the boys but we were all friends. We had a party for that and all of the other holidays and I remember our mothers would come and bring all of our younger siblings along so it got quite crowded. We had about 25 kids in school. Im sure with all of the others there was probably 50 people there. What I remember the most was a chicken that we made out of hearts. The body was a large heart and smaller hearts were glued on to make the neck, head, wing, tail and legs. I sure wish I had the pattern for it. Does anyone else remember this?...See MoreWhen You Were Little Did You......................?
Comments (32)I just loved them - the Betsy McCall paper doll was so exciting - and I loved making my own clothes for the paper dolls. I was never a Barbie fan, I liked "baby dolls" which did pretty much nothing except open and close eyes, so I could dress them up in real baby clothes and care for them like real babies - in a way they really were "real" to me. But yes, I also loved paper dolls - I don't recall actually "playing" with them, but the clothes creations - designing and coloring - was so much fun. My older sister loved her "Bride" dolls and Barbies and I would play with her but my heart was never in it. She did use to make me the basic paper doll person cut out in heavy paper or thin cardboard for me to make more clothes, she liked that and she was very talented. I have some paper dolls which belonged to my mother when she was a small child, of Shirly Temple. She adored Shirley Temple - I have them in their original box on in a bookcase. I think of her every time I look at them....See MoreHome buyers: Do you drive around looking for houses for sale?
Comments (17)I search various real estate websites online, everyday. It's like a part time job for us. Not so much remax, century 21, or weichert, since their sites tend to be so overwhelming and cluttery. I tend to choose local real estate company websites, which in my experience have been a bit more accurate with more detail and clearer photos. If I find a house I like, I try everything to find the address to visit it first before wasting our agents time. Real estate agents aren't what they use to be (no offense). It use to be that they showed you houses that truly matched your criteria, now you can't trust an agent, especially if you live out of state. They will show you the junkiest houses, in the worst neighborhoods, with no regards to your wishes or needs, and let me tell you we're not picky. All we're looking for is a fixer upper on a wooded secluded lot. We're willing to do the roof, the floors, doors, trim. All we need is at least 3 bed, 1 bth, but leave it to your agent to show you houses that are undoable. In their defense though, I understand they have to show off the houses that have been sitting for a while to demonstrate effort to the seller, however, it's not cool when your agent knows you're driving 3-4 hours to see a house and you have specifically asked them if the house is secluded and they tell you yes, only to get there and see another house in plain view. Thank goodness we decided to rent in the area we're looking so we don't have to drive 3-4 hours anymore.....See MoreSuzi AKA DesertDance So CA Zone 9b
