Master Closet with Window

Latest drawings have the front elevation of the home changed, which moved the master closet around. Attached pic shows the new layout.

Originally the window was in the middle of the closet, centered, so there was room for hanging on both sides. Not it's sort of 'in the corner' of the closet.

Any thoughts on how to best utilize this space? I don't really want to just leave a large open floor space by the window. Also thinking about putting a W/D hookup on the wall with the shower just inside the door entry. At some point would allow W/D on the wall where the short hanging is currently shown.

What does this end of the floor look like? I wonder if there is a way to have the bathroom use this window/space, with a change in closet orientation/location.

We have a window in our master closet that faces the front. I don't know if you would consider it a major window but it is the similar in size to the other windows facing the street. Like most of other poster's weighing in, I like having access to natural light in my closet. I do keep the blinds closed most of the time, however. I keep a luggage rack under my window for ease of packing and unpacking since both DH and I travel for work but I like the idea of a small bench under the window...especially if it could do double duty as a storage chest.

I would opt for bigger bath and one shared closet. Would overall be less cramped for space. If you do the closet with a wall closet system with various drawers and hangers there is more than ample space for you both. If not, then you have too many clothes. In my closet I have 3 drawers and a hanger above those in multiple areas, then I have hangers for long clothes, and we have corner shelving and shelves for storage on top. Lots of space. Shoe rack on the floor under the long clothes.

Second plan, with the addition of a prep sink on the island. Your fridge doesn't need landing space on both sides, and the island will be extra landing space. Pull the cabinets on the fridge/range wall out to meet the fridge box, and you have an instant built in fridge, with the added bonus of deeper counters--unless that puts the clean-up sink against the perpendicular counter. I can't tell where the windows are, exactly. As twosit mentioned, the dish hutch is in a good spot in the second plan. A helper can load or unload the DW, or gather dishes to set the table, while you are prepping or cooking without interfering in your tasks. You have a small secondary prep space between the clean-up sink and the range, if you have help prepping. Given the choice of a window over the sink, or a window in the pantry, I'd choose the sink--how much time do you plan to spend in the pantry?

Keep playing with drawing til something makes sense. I tried to sketch something out, let's see if I can attach it. Did you want to add a tub, or just a bigger shower? If windows can be added to the left wall, it would really add more possibilities! I made the bigger closet skinny so the window light still comes in. This loses the hall closets so it may need more work. I am not a big fan of the hall between the closets, it was my attempt to keep the window. Either of the closets where the master was could be removed to be a sitting area or a desk area. Obviously I am not a professional. I just like looking at and thinking about floor plans. I am sure others will jump in to improve my sketch by criticizing it lol. I left the toilet and one sink in place. I think the shower could use the same drain and it would not be too bad to extend the pipes to make it bigger, and add the second sink. The entry point is a bit crowded but I was having trouble adding a second sink if I made the bathroom door by the closets.

I agree with looking to change the closet/bathroom around. I have a window in the closet, but it's between the rows of clothes, so it doesn't take up storage space. In this case, putting in the window reduces your hanging space in 2 spots. Don't forget that corners are really inefficient use of space in closets. You can really only access 1 side. So you'll probably only get a few inches to the right of that window (looking at it from inside).

Also don't forget that sunlight is a bad idea for closets as it fades clothing.

Do you have a view out of the window? I see that lovely closet and dream of putting a bench with cushions in that corner, and using that wall for a pretty mirror (even if you have a full length one on the door) and jewelry organizer. Windows in closets are awesome! It makes the room feel more like a dressing area, and less like a storage facility.

Window seat with shoe cubbies underneath. FWIW, I had a functional window in my last closet and would not do it again. Even with the blinds closed all the time, I still fought fading adjacent to the window. I found it also to be a potential weak spot where security was concerned. It was the least noticable window from inside the house and had the most immediate access to the Master suite. When our alarm was armed, it was no problem... but when kids were in and out all day long the alarm didn't get armed until bedtime.
