2 weeks in NYC...my activity log...
Comments (10)You guys should have been there. It was not nearly as busy as it sounds , I was home in bed at a good hour almost every night but 2. I am not up for late night scenes without DH by my side. I had time to shower between ventures out and rest a bit. The doormen at my DB's building were so funny, they said where you off to now lady ? I always told them where I was going and carried ID and my cell. Manhattan is VERY safe all hours of the day and night. The NYPD is everywhere and people are so friendly. I also used common sense as to routes etc. As one police officer told me, folks expect Manhattan to be safe and it is a very big responsibility but they meet it very well. The only crime is pick pocket stuff on tourists by Times Sq etc. I have never gone anywhere and been on my own like this in my life...never. My first bike was a Schwinn 50 years ago when I was 7. I was so happy to have another one....life has a way of making circles that are joined with other circles. I met so many folks from Alabama....I was eating a NJ peach at the green market and commented on Chilton County peaches...yep there was a Chilton County boy right there next to me. The guy on the row behind me was a grad of Univ of Al and teaches in Conn. There were girls and their Mom from right by my home town in Ohio standing next to me at the fireworks....the guy leading the bike ride on Sunday bought a house on Chartres and Spain St. in N.O . just up the street from where I lived in 1971....life is a circle....c...See MoreNorth Gardens - tune up discussion
Comments (15)You always have a vision and you are always working toward fulfilling it. How wonderful it would be to have "seedlings" the size of those you show us. Especially all those big GOLD HOSTA. ....sigh.... And I think you are right that Dark Shadows gets to be quite large. I bought two of them. The older one is getting some size on it since it arrived in 2012. It is on the Fragrant Flowered Hosta list, so of course I had to get it. I also like dark greens, and this one has nothing but green tones. I'm also looking at lighting up major pathways by a gradation of golds. I think the colors persist until real nightfall, and the reflection of a lighter leaf makes it nice to walk out of the garden without stumbling. I truly do not want to interfere with the night pollinators and fireflies, and thus keep my solar lights to a minimum. But in deep shade areas the batteries don't recharge all that dependably anyway. When I expect a visitor to walk through the garden, I have the individual lights out in the sun all day and tote them under my arm to pivotal pathway points (love alliteration, don't you?) to show what is next....or WHERE is next. I've checked those lights up in the wee hours, and they stay operable for a long time when given a good dose of sun on a clear day. Love the way you chose to take out some of the sapling trees as you developed your bed expansions. Less problems in future years because it would be overcrowded, and nature would take some out at an inconvenient time for you....See MoreKeeping an active dog inactive
Comments (11)annz- I'm not offended. People don't quite comprehend the activity level until they actually witness my little Energizer bunny. As I stated, I've owned energetic breeds before and this is definitely the most active dog I've ever encountered. He was surrendered to a shelter at age 1, pulled by rescue and then returned to rescue twice ... for behavior problems including excessive digging, barking and chewing and becasue the families learned that they did not have "enough time for the dog". I've had NO problems and he is the absolute epitome of pointer good cheer and eagerness to please now but I believe that a tired good is a good dog. I'm retired now and have all the time in the world to get my own exercise and work with him. If the weather's tremendously, horrendously nasty, he doesn't have issues for a day or two ( we don't let a little rain, sleet, snow or mud stop us but blizzards, below zero weather, torrential downpours adn floods mean we cut things short) As you can tell, our normal routine is very, very active and I'd like to keep him off the path of destruction. I wish I'd broken something myself instead - that would be much easier!...See More2010 4th Annual North Carolina Quilt Retreat
Comments (72)I'm sure there'll be a corn field just down the road. Few cobs roasted in the coals??? If temperatures continue to be cool (60s at night here) in the mountains, we just might want that fireplace!! Wouldn't that create great ambiance!...See Morejosephines167 z5 ON Canada
