Tiffy, just remember the germination databases, even the good ones, are suggestions as to what works most often, not always...there are always exceptions and rarely just one way to sprout a seed. And a lot depends on the condition (handling) of the seed. I did sow Miss Wilmott and leave her inside for 3 weeks before putting outdoors - Feb 18th and no germination yet, seeds from my own plant. On the other hand, Rosa sericea ssp. omeiensis, winged thorn, did like your eryngium and started germinating inside on my desk, in a baggie with a bit of moist vermiculite, and under a stack of mail that had been plopped on top the baggie. Imagine my surprise, and I don't mean that in a good way :(

I'm just going to say something that's been on my mind. Last year, I asked about a variety which seemed to me to have no special "cachet" whatsoever. I had grown Large Red Cherry tomatoes forever and it was just such a dependable choice. Some questioned the wisdom of spending $$ and space on the plants. Others here pointed out that LRC was a Quisenberry collection heirloom - news to me! Gonefishin' said that he had room for one more plant and he brought home a LRC. Once it started growing and producing, he couldn't say anything but nice things about it. In some of his last posts, he talked about saving seed and about having started cuttings for 2008. I can't fully tell you how his interest in the variety made me feel. I felt he had fully vouched for my own appreciation of this relatively unacclaimed variety with its "generic" name. Hi Again Amanda, Well, thx, don't know abt expert save, may be too soon to say, it's quite recent. Camera's acting up, but I noticed today, the center of the plant is quite erect (pardon me, don't know how else to say that). I deciding here & now, if I ever buy more Hahniis, I will only pot them in clay pots. I too have killed Sans. from underwatering; I don't often meet others who have, funny. Good analogy abt being the Gardenia of the Sans. world, funny we both know that. Had you ever read the Suicidal Gardenia thread, which had over 100 posts? I once printed out the whole thing & took it to a friend in hospital for his amusement, especially since he bloomed his Gardenia w/ no trouble. Basia, 4 yrs. w/ a 'Jade' seems a pretty good run. I had a very nice one I'd gotten w/ the pair in the photo above which I lost after abt 6 months, no idea why. It was a beauty, very dark, I was so bummed. Having heard of Lechuza Pon but never used it, I'll be curious to hear of your experiments afterwards.

Ah, Lost in the Fifties. What a sweet, innocent time era. I would go back in a heartbeat but like you, I would have to take my puter. ☺

The Sixties were great in the entertainment world but the political upheaval was awful, including Viet Nam.

What a blast from the past. Thank you! I'm a bit too young to remember a lot of the '50s, but the '60s one was...wait...wasn't it just a "couple" of years ago? Sometimes it seems like it! And it was a great time to be a kid. I do remember being really mad at my parents because they wouldn't let me go to Woodstock. Um, I was 12 years old...talk about innocent babes in the woods :-)

What a blast from the past. I was a child in the 50s and a teen in the 60s. Crazy years to grow up. I'd forgotten about Dr. Kildare and Ben Casey. There was quite a rivalry going on who was cuter/more handsome and it was a fashion fad to wear a doctor styled shirt. LOL I had a Dr. Kildare shirt. Anyone else remember those?
