Have you ever seen one of these?
Comments (4)Trickle towers are a type of filter, but the one you linked to is a new version to me. It looks like it would do a good job of filtering the water. The towers can be made from virtually any material, rocks, lava rock, plastic pots etc, anything that the water can slowly trickle down over. Usually the tower sits in the pond, the water, pumped up through the center to the top of the tower, then trickles down over the outside of the filter, where the bacteria grows. NOTE.The one you linked to, will have the water trickling through the filter media in the center. As the water flows down over the outside surfaces, it also gathers oxygen and then re-enters the pond. Comments (14)Chuck, it got down to 32 the other night here in Kentucky and the tomato plants made it through fine in the makeshift greenhouse. By the time I was outside at 7:30am it was nippy, but I didn't see any frost on anything. According to my photo journal from last year we got a hard freeze on April 14th 2008, so I'm not convinced we're 'out of the woods' yet. My photos showed me trying to cover tomato plants IN THE GROUND with pieces of old carpet, C2 Christmas string lights and loose straw. That was a pain to setup, but it worked. If we should have a freeze like that anytime soon I will simply add the string of lights to the patio table's support ring above the tomato plants. Those old style C2 Christmas lights put out some fair heat....See MoreHave you seen a lump like this on a dog?
Comments (29)If your blood work comes back showing the tumor to be a mast-cell, don't let your regular vet do the surgery. These tumors send out webs of tissue that can involve muscle, joints and organs. Only a vet specializing in this disease has a chance of being able to excise all surrounding tissue. Our Lab went in for a tumor on her side and afterward the vet 'apolpgised' for not being able to get all the surrounding area. She then recommended taking the dog to a specialist. Two surgeries for a 13 year old...I don't think so. I don't know if the specialist could have done better, but I would have felt like we had given it our best shot. Had I known then I would have had her re-examined by the cancer doc. By the way, that was two years ago and the tumor came back, along with others. Amazingly, they don't seem to be really painful and her quality of life is better without the risk involved with more surgery attempts....See MoreHave You Ever Seen A UFO?
Comments (16)Yes I have. I was around 18 years old and my bed was right beside our back porch which was not screened at the time. It was late, around midnight when I turned over to look out the window and talk to our dog that slept right under my window on the porch. Over Daddy's garden in the back was this really big light, I thought it was the moon. But, there was NO moon that night and I know that because I remember the weatherman talking about it being such a black night without the moon outside. And my sister and I had been laying outside in lounge chairs with binoculars looking at all the stars because it was such a black night. We liked doing that when there was no moon. That light lingered for a while over the garden and then just blinked out! I mean one minute it was there and then it was just gone. A few nights later my sister woke me up hysterical. We shared the same room just had different beds. Mine was by the window and hers was by the door. She said she woke up, heard a noise outside the open window. She sat up and saw 3 men like things looking in the window at me laying there in bed a sleep. She said they must have been short because of the height they were in the window. They had a large head, big eyes and a tiny slit of a mouth. When she made a noise they looked up at her, stared a minute and just disappeared. That totally freaked me out. And outside my window in the dirt were prints of little feet. Foot marks like I have never seen before! Deb...See MoreElmer J Fudd
