creeping cucumber vine - weed or vegetable?

We've had this weedy-looking vine for a while in our area and one name that came up in a search using its small yellow flowers was "Melothria pendula" or Creeping Cucumber. We never noticed any cucumbers, but upon closer inspection of hard-to-reach vines that had enough time to mature, we found that there were indeed tiny cucumbers on them. They are edible when green (mature fruits are black and have a strong laxative effect), taste quite similar to cucumbers, and are essentially an equivalent of grape tomatoes, with similar culinary applications. Melothria pendula is perennial in warmer areas (some claiming as low as zone 8b, although this varies widely), so it looks that it reseeds here as annual.
Anyone interested in seeds for the Raleigh swap :-) ?
