O Tannenbaum, o Tannenbaum!! Show your Christmas Trees!
Comments (57)Thanks Susie :D This cheers me up,too! Hey Kirk, that's what the tree looked like when I was growing up. We planted hundreds and hundreds with our mother it seemed like, even staying out in the woods til well past dark with all sorts of wild animals jumping around at us out there,(back then it was moonshiners you ran into on your property, now it's meth labs) and it was scary when you're only about 6 or 7 years old! I never inherited my mother's ability or want, to wander alone in the woods til wee hours of the morning. After I was married and lived here, we still cut down our own trees, until trespassers stole all of them(to sell, I guess)one year. Some grew back up from the trunks, but we didn't feel like fooling with them any more after that. The smell is great, there's no comparison to a live tree, but we broke down and got an ARTIFICIAL pre-lit one :D lol Too many allergies, they dried out quickly, too. Boy could I tell you some FUNNNNY stories us and the kids endured with live trees ( one year involving a crazy Himalayan cat we had :D ) I can't wait til next Christmas!oh and I see Carol's tree skirt! It's just perfect. Cherry/Kudzu...See MoreDo my mature mugo pines have 'value'?
Comments (8)I'm not sure about the regulations in New York but, in our neck of the woods, we have to use nursery grown plant material. So many diseases these days, wholesale and retail nurseries are regularly inspected by... (well I can't remember the official government title). I would be out of business if I put in a mugo pine and it happen to be a carrier of a major virus that wiped out an entire ecosystem. I appreciate that you want to see your mugo's go to a good home. Maybe you should list them for free on Craig's List, to someone who would dig them out and forget about a profit....See MoreNeed suggestions: dwarf mugo pine or dwarf norway spruce
Comments (13)rfazaf, Yes it is the A.K ' Golden Spreader' by the wall. It can take afternoon sun til sunset with no burning because it is a mature plant. For the smaller size it will get burnt a bit by by afternoon sun, but after it acclimates to the soil and sun condition it will do just fine. I do not know what zone you're in, but I understand zone 5-6 is the ideal zones for the A.K 'Golden Spreader'. I got hooked to conifer addiction a few years back. It took me awhile, after I managed to kill so many of them, to realize what it needs in order to build a good conifer garden. I'm still learning from the Pros and the addicts in this forum though. Soon you will be just like most of us here in this forum. you will see a lots of nut jobs in here. Be ready to pop some dough here and there to satisfy your crave and don't forget to hide the costs from your spouse or soon you will have a divorce summons in your hand. But still you can tell your spouse: Life without conifers is not worth living for! Good luck and welcome to the exciting adventure of conifer world. J.N...See MoreMugo Pine 'Teeny'
Comments (4)Actually you would think so, yes? And we do plant a lot of trees into the ground to fatten up and grow thicker faster. But Vance Wood, who is counted among many to be the foremost expert on Mugo pine bonsai, says otherwise. He says keeping it potted will actually force the mugo to fatten the trunk and age the bark better and faster, unlike most trees. I can link you to some of his notes on mugo pines as bonsai. https://www.bonsainut.com/resources/compiled-vance-wood-on-mugo-pines.23/...See MoreUser
