Am Considering Silky Pole Saw - What Else Should I Consider?
Comments (7)The Silky pole saw is one of the nicest out there. I have never used or owned the Silky version. I have a fiberglass version that I use but I also have separate pruning and saw head for the poles. I don't think the Silky can take a pruning head IIRC. Since you don't use the pruning portion, that should not be an issue. It will not matter which blade you get IF the blades are interchangeable. I know they offer the blades in different lengths for the handsaws, I'm just not sure about the polesaws. I have a zubat hand saw that I really like. You'll want the blade to be as stiff as possible. It helps prevent the blade from bending when it binds in the cut. Great things about the Silky are that it is one of the lightest and stiffest poles out there. But anything that long is going to flex. The Silky blades are excellent. The extendable version is nice in that it quickly adjusts to the desired height. Bad things are that the aluminum poles are not as sturdy as some folks hoped. Drops and bangs to the units have caused bent poles that could not be satisfactorily straightened (think bent retractable radio antenna). Also, if the clips that lock the extension poles in place break, they are not repairable. They are not rated for utility work (around electricity). The above info is what I remember from doing research @3 years ago. Some of this may have changed in the meantime. There were alot of happy folks using these though. Problems were with durability and not being able to repair a pricey piece of equipment....See MoreWhen should I consider a cutting to have rooted?
Comments (1)first.. i would tip it out of the pot.. and look ... if that failed... i would grab the trunk.. and gently tug... if it has roots... the soil will start to buckle indicating roots are down there ... resisting the stick being easily pulled out ... and if that failed... i would bare root it when the leaves turn color and fall off ... and find out ... and then repot it ... boy.. it made it thru the heat of summer.. holding leaves... one must imagine... there are roots down there ... i might give it a week or two before you do it.... its supposed to be 90s here fro me.. for a couple days ... ken...See MoreWhen should I Trim Roses
Comments (7)I trim mine to make them a little bit more open in the center. May be this year, I'll trim to reduce size. I just met a lady who has 150 roses (mostly fragrant antiques) in may be 1/4 to 1/2 an acre or less, and all she does is spray with sulfur weekly and shovels on leaf mold and for a few a little fertilizer. You should see those bushes. I am aiming for something similar in part of my garden. I was totally amazed....See MoreCarpet▪what should I consider when choosing
Comments (8)I would go for nylon. Nylon fiber is non absorbent. It is a little bit more expensive than poly, but holds up better and cleans easier. I just clean mine with hot water. No soap. Also half of the carpet durability is the pad underneath. Spring for the best pad. Also buy 5 or better twists. per inch in the fiber. Also spread the fibers on each carpet, you will notice some are denser than others. The backing will show more on some carpets than others. Less backing showing the better the carpet. More fibers per sq inch the better. There is many different types of piles. Each person has their favorite. Mine is plush. I don't mind vacuum lines at all....See Moremichaelg
