Thanks, everyone! Copper would definitely be a great complement to the oil rubbed bronze, but unfortunately, it's not one of our "builder grade" options. I also love polished nickel - it has a warmer tone that would probably complement ORB better, but it's pricier and more difficult to coordinate with our options throughout the home. I do agree that black and oil rubbed bronze can work together - in fact, our front door is a black metal double door with oil rubbed bronze edging. I do have some brushed gold decor items/accents that I will incorporate (i.e. an etagere, end tables, etc.), but I think we are still limited to some combination of ORB/brushed nickel or ORB/chrome for our kitchen faucet, cabinet hardware, and lighting. So which of those is better? Brushed nickel or chrome?

One Devoted Dame......I don’t see that whether or not mixing metals was done historically has any bearing on whether the ops home will look cohesive (or dated) if she chooses to tastefully mix things up a bit. I understand that a lot of folks feel that way, but I can't reconcile the generally accepted notion (here on the forums, anyway), that "timeless = architecturally appropriate" with "today, people mix metals all the time, it's no big deal." Generally speaking, we look back to architectural styles/norms throughout history, to determine if something is trendy or appropriate for any given house. History can give us important clues. If cohesiveness is important to someone, then yes, mixing metals certainly can be problematic. It doesn't *have* to be, but the likelihood is higher. If being "dated" is a concern to someone, then yes, ensuring that the home respectfully nods to historic precedent should be a priority. In the OP's examples above, of the faucet and pulls, I think the *lines* of each piece are similar, but the finishes are too different (on my screen, the pulls look matte-black rustic; the faucet looks shiny-polished silver) to look "cohesive." Whether they look "good" together is a different question, in my opinion.

To keep it simple, these "rules" have always worked for me. 1. Like fixtures, like finishes -faucets are chrome, light fixtures are gold, (for example), you'll step out into the whirlwind if you're thinking that the light fixture above the sink has to have the same finish as the faucet. 2. Black is like pepper, just a little will do for accent-cabinet hardware is a good place, a sprinkle. 3. Max of three metals in a room, if one of those is black, then that counts as one of the three 4. In a kitchen, if the appliance you need only comes in one metal choice, like the door handles of the refrigerator in chrome (for example), than make sure that is one of your three metal choices, and it's fine if the faucet is chrome too. (In case you were thinking that your cabinet hardware had to be chrome too because they're handles-not) Hope you find this helpful.
