its time to put in drip irrigation
Comments (3)Canokie I dont see anything wrong with your plan. What I was talking about was doing the same thing you are doing. I would have the feed line (light blue) in PVC, or some type sturdy line. Where it comes out of the ground I would have a faucet that I could screw a "Y" onto, which would have a ball valve on each side. Now we go to the 2' wide bed. I was talking about running a 1/2" irrigation tube along the back side of the bed and feeding toward the inside with 1/4" tube. The reason I was think of this type of layout is, some emitters cant be run in more than 3 in a series, 2ND, if I were going to work in an area I would just lift the 1/4" line out of the way and leave the others undisturbed. If I wanted to feed down the fence outside the garden I would already have a feed line installed that would be large enough handle a lot more emitters if I wanted to extend the garden down along the fence. One thing I would suggest is you look at is the lines that already have the emitters installed, they look good but I dont know how well they work or how hard they are to repair. I would expect it would be very important to filter the water very well. The system I use now for the garden is made of PVC. I have supplies for the flower beds and other areas which includes over 500' of 1/4" tubing and over 75 emitters of different kinds, but may never find the time to install them. I think you plan is fine, just keep filtering and freezing in mind. Larry...See MoreMajor exterieror makeover advice?
Comments (95)honestly think that you are overthinking this whole project. You will achieve 90% of what you want with 10% of the effort that people on this thread are suggesting. 1) get yourself some new Marvin Integrity windows. Aluminum clad white on the outside, real divided lite. Go for 9 over 1 for a really great glassic look. 6 over 1 can look fakey. 2) have your contractor extend the soffits as was suggested. Have him put 5" fascia boards up on the ends to add more beef. 3) colonial front door. 4) 4.5" trim around all windows and doors 5) center that front-facing garage window when you do it over with a Marvin. 6) have your carpenter dress up the existing columns with some crown tops and bottoms to make them appear more stately. On your budget, your house will never look 100% perfect like a movie house. But it will look 90% of what you want, with what I just suggested. This project can be done by a carpenter and a trip to Home Depot or Lowes for under $10,000. Architect? Contractor? You're pampering yourself with those expenditures. Have a little guts and do what I said....See MoreRaised Hearth-Builtin book cases
Comments (12)I thought I sent a reply before but looks like I forgot to hit send before going to sleep yest night! thanks rdsso for sharing pics. Lovely transformation. It looks so warm and cozy. The little rocking chair is adorable! Is that a faux treatment on the brick? Did u by anychance use a product called brick-a-new? if not, could u tell me how you did it. I love what you have done with the bookcase also. I wish mine could be recessed like yours. :-( ideefixe: Revlon makes no color that looks good on swine. LOL! that's so true! It sure is an ugly duckling! As for the bookcases, maybe I will get a couple of qoutes from custom woodmakers..They are just so expensive around here but worth a try! I might have to wait for a long time before DH gets around to it. I was in ikea the other day. I was tempted to buy a couple of their bookcases to plonk them down and be done with it! What do you think? Thanks for your suggestions Vinaya Here is a link that might be useful: Ikea Liatorp...See MoreMy coworker said my dog was ugly! what do you think?
Comments (81)I was just reading this thread, and noted someone suggested an electric fence rather than a chain. I'd like to agree with the electric fence... but sometimes even if they've been trained to stay inside, some times something will call them to go out. My sister in law lost her dog that way. He'd been let out to do his business, but something must have attracted him enough to bounce past that fence. He went missing. My brother found him a day later, hit by the train that runs nearby. That dog was an amazing dog - also a pit bull mix. I'm wondering if a run would be a good solution, give the dog a chance to move around more without getting into a situation like the wonderful one I just wrote about. (That dog had been indoors about 95% of the time.)...See Morehancockheather
