It's pretty paper, but I'm not sure I'd put a dark wallpaper in a hallway for fear it would close it in even more. Also, the pattern may be too busy for such a long hallway.

The pineapple pattern is very appropriate for a hallway because it is a traditional symbol of welcome or hospitality. I actually think that hallways are good places for busy wallcoverings because you walk through them, it's not like you are staring at the pattern during an hour-long meal or in the TV room. The ebony ground is kind of dark, how well lit is the hallway? It may be okay with the white wainscoting.

It has a front door at one end with full side lights on either side.The dining room and living room both open to it as well.

It is really pretty, but it is dark. I love the pineapple motif.

The stair case is also in the hallway.I should of said that in the beginning.Only one side would be wallpapered for the most part and a small part going up the stairs.

The design will create a lattice effect which is nice and can appear to expand the space, if that makes sense. I like it, but wallpaper is one of those things you must LOVE before going to the expense and seeming permanence. It is not something to change your mind about. Do you have a room view of the wallpaper? That said, I just had our dining room wallpapered and love it, after torturing myself over 100's wallpaper designs. If you love it, go for it! edited to add: I just found the room view, and agree a hallway would be a good place to use that pattern.

That wallpaper is lovely. There is a blog called Manhattan Nest (manhattan-nest.com) where Daniel, the blogger, used it in a project he did for the actress Ana Gasteyer. If you go to his blog and click on Freelance Projects, it's the second project. You can see how it looks on a wall with white wainscoting -- it's very nice!

Nice wallpaper, but too dark and busy for my tastes and esp for a hallway.

I think it's really pretty, both close up and from a distance. It sounds like you have lots of light and white trim to balance it out. I think it will look great. Please post a pic if you do it, I'd love to see it. And now I have to go look at some more patterns from that company!

In a 31 foot long hallway, that wallpaper might be overwhelming.

Thank you all for your advice.I live in a 200 year old farmhouse in Maine.The rest of the house is Cottage style.I have a lot of bead board and it is all Painted simply white.This long Hallway is sandwich between my living room which is all white and a dining room which is a lovely cottage green. On the opposite side of the hall is a staircase and two doors all painted white.The end of the hall is another door and a built in book shelf also white.You are only able to see a small part of the hall from each room.This will be a surprising change for the eye.I am putting silver 2 light wall sconces on the wall as well.

I think it's a beautiful, updated version of a very traditional pattern - reminds me of the stenciled pineapples.

If you have good lighting in the hall and perhaps lots of nice sunshine during the day - this along with your white wainscoting would be beautiful, dramatic and appropriate.

It's not my "taste" as I'm more minimalist/modern, but it's the kind of statement that I enjoy seeing in other people's homes.

As someone who loves pattern, I have overdone it a time or two. I'm still not sure if the initial delight from "going for it" outweighs the dread when I realized the pattern REALLY needed to be changed.

Beautiful wallpaper. Funny, re: NSM's pic, because when I saw the wallpaper, I immediately saw it in a formal powder room.

One thing to consider about wallpaper: If you are expecting to sell the house in the future, think long and hard about putting wallpaper up, esp. a large swath of it. Unless your home is in an area of multimillionaire, who can afford to hire someone to strip wallpaper, I think it can be a deal breaker.

It's perhaps a good idea to check out what adhesive to use that might make removal easier later, just in case.

A sealer painted on the wall before hanging wallpaper makes removal easier. People seem to have a fear of wallpaper derived from memories of removing poorly installed wallpaper in the past. Sorry to tell you this, but wallpaper is back in style and very much so. The $$$$$ homes near me are installing lots of it. These are not your old $20.00 a roll papers. Today the price is around $200.00 per single roll with large repeats, meaning you need more paper and have more waste. That is the one of the reasons the OP should be certain she is really in love with the paper before buying it. This paper has an 18 inch repeat IIRC, so not too much waste. I do think having some black on the floor (rug) or within sight in an adjoining room would help balance out the black background. The gold metallic pineapples are a plus, creating warmth and interest. Just my opinion, of course, which is worth less than 2 cents. ;-)

I don't think it looks too dark, but I would worry that I would tire of the high contrast pattern- esp in the foyer...

In our former home we had a beautiful floral (flowers on trailing vines) wallpaper on a black background. It was in the foyer and went up the stairs to the second floor but was not on the hallway walls upstairs. It was striking and just about everyone who saw it said they wished they were brave enough to put something as bold and wonderful in their own homes. Well, mostly women said that :-)

Thank you all for weighing in.I agree with Rococogurl .If someone doesnt want to buy my home there will be someone who loves it.My staircase has black tread with seagrass runner with black binding.That is why this paper was so appealing.

I hope you're not planning on selling any time soon. While it's very pretty wallpaper, it's very, very, taste specific. I had to remove wallpaper when I sold my last home, and I can't even begin to describe what a b**** it was! Just food for thought.

I live in a 200 year old Farmhouse with a 300 year old attachment.It has all been restored.I have full confidence that it would sell within 30 days of hitting the market.I have 15 acre'sand two barn.But no worries.I am not selling.

I think a hallway with lots of white wainscoting would be stunning and appropriate. To my surprise, I don't love it in the photo of that powder room thought I think I would like it in another powder room.

To the OP, your black stair treads and binding will be the perfect black accent to tie in the background of the wallpaper. Good luck, I hope you love it as much as I love mine.

I'm not sure that I'd use it, but I like the pineapple motif (DH would veto it). Sounds like you have enough light and openings to keep it from being too dark or overpowering. And I totally agree that wallpaper is not something that brings up resale considerations unless you are talking about taking down old paper.

31 feet is a lot of pineapples.

It will be stunning. The pattern is perfect for a modern farmhouse. I used a black background overall print in a bath and dressing room. Loved it. Anything gilded or green will be gorgeous against that paper and a seagrass runner in the hall would have the right feel too, if you felt like doing that. Sounds like you're nailing it. You don't need advice.

I lived in a condo complex of seven 1830s -1850s houses and the ceilings were 14, 12, 10, 8 as they ascended.

There were thousands of yards of large scale blue toile with metallic highlights covering all the hallways and stairwells. (1960s version of toile) It worked because it was in hallways and other transitional areas. It was forty years old when I moved in and 55 years old when I moved out and it looked good in most areas.

One board president pressed for it's removal and of course since wallpaper of any sort is the mark of the devil there were always other people on board for this. They removed it from all the vestibules and a couple of stairwells where it was dirty. They painted the walls beige. Not only was it incredibly dull, but the condition of the walls looked as dirty and banged up in 6 months painted as they did after 50 years papered.

So, sure, 31 feet is a lot of pineapples. But it's an awful lot of Accessible Beige, too. :(

Keep in mind that in that hallway there is 6 door openings .5 wood doors all painted white, 1 french door painted white.A built in bookshelf at one end.The one end has front door with glass lights on either side of the front door.Also there is a staircase which is open.The wainscoting is all white as well.So 57 inches above that will be wallpaper.The opposite wall will only have no more than 5 feet length of wall paper.

I really like it! I'm seriously considering adding wallpaper to our powder room, which is nuts after what I went through to get it down :)

You mentioned it is an old house, have you checked your heights along this hallway to make sure they are fairly even? As an older house owner, I know I have a few spots that aren't completely level. I wouldn't want a repeat pattern to look wonky after I spent so much on fantastic paper.

it's gorgeous paper... it would look very striking... but, if you feel like you are trying to talk yourself into it, you may want to reconsider...? I love wallpaper- a lot more than some other people- I personally would worry I would tire of that particular pattern, even though it is looks great... but none of us can tell you if you will/won't...

sreedesq, Lucky enough we have adsorbed the difference in the wainscoting and floor trim.We also will install crown molding.

Too dark and too much of a good thing. In addition, because the pineapples are metallic, they will catch the light and 'pop' when viewed from the side. This wallpaper will mostly be viewed from the side in perspective. This wallpaper is more appropriate for a small room and bit kitschy IMO.

Love that your stair treads are black and runner is seagrass.....paper will look great with that combo!
