Dog owners...question about fungal issues in ears
Comments (10)Hmmm maybe it's yeast, I thought it was fungus but I may have misunderstood. It's a wet, black goo that stinks if we don't clean it out regularly. Max is taking ketoconozole orally and that helps when I canget him to swallow it. I am returning the food. I like what I feed them but I might look into s no grain food as Max does tend to be heavier than he needs to be, but Z is the perfect weight. She is a lot more active than he is tho. Someone suggested vagisil but I thought that was weird but might try it if I can't get Max's ears to calm down. Guess the daily monitoring is just another part of being a good pet parent. We've got 4 dogs but Maxie's my boy...fell in love with him at first sight. I just can't understand how people can be cruel to dogs and get rid of them when they just don't fit their ideals anymore. Sorry, my rant of the day. Max was a rescue who'd been neglected & abused before he was saved and I met him....See MoreTemporary soother for my dog's itchy ear?
Comments (6)If your dog is not prone to ear infections and by now you should know about it, I would wait before doing anything with your dogs ear - it could be something is in there and you may cause more problems in cleaning out the ear. If you must, I would very carefull try and look in there to seeif anything is stuck, if your dog will let you you might take a cotton ball with a tiny bit of water on it and gently wipe around the inside of her ear. Keep an eye on her. This could be as simple as a bug crawling inside or as complicated as a full blown infection. You can determine if it is an infection by sniffing around the ear, if it smells nasty, or strong, it is an infection. NOTE, if your dog stays laying down and its eyes travel back and forth, this is due to ear problems and you will have to carry your dog into the vets. Good luck, hope a simple cleaning is all it takes....See MoreDog-eared fence repair
Comments (1)Your post isn't clear - are the posts in place? Do they follow the terrain or are they level? My thought: With board-on-board, your dog-eared boards would look best installed vertically. If the horizontals are yet to be installed, I believe stepping them with the grade but installing them level between adjacent posts would look correct. This way, you can have the dog-eared boards equal in length yet have the fence follow the grade....See MoreDog Ear Cleaner
Comments (17)Marcy, the medication we give her is called Allercept Therapy drops. She was so miserable that the vet suggested we test for allergies, so we did. The Lab that the Vet uses took the results and mixed a custom formula that fits her needs. From what I understand there are several of these specialty labs that do this. Her test responded to several common outdoor allergents and mites, including grain mites and yeast which are in most all of their dry food products. Once we started her on the medication (2 drops 2x a day), switched to a grain free/yeast free kibble and started freezing everything before feeding it to her, it didn’t take long at all for her to respond. No more infections, no more itching and chewing of her paws, no waxey build up in her ears, no infections of any kind. We’ve saved a bundle in vet visits too. The test is about 200.00 and her serum is 140ish every six months, and IMO, worth every penny. If your dog is suffering from similar issues, you may want to inquire about having her (or him) tested. ETA: Even if it’s not possible financially for someone to have their pet allergy tested, grain mites are a common allergy and they are rampant in their food. You may be able to help your pet by simply freezing it’s food (or treats) before you give it to them. If it’s chewing it’s paws, instead of trying to find a deterent like bitter apple, it’s a safe bet that it could easily be yeast related, so remove foods that have yeast from it’s diet. Even though there may be yeast contaminents outside that it’s allergic to, it could still help to relieve the itching and ear issues some....See Moresushipup1
