I know this is kind of close together with the Spring Fling. But if anyone lives near Tahlequah and would like to build some tomato cages, we're having a cage building t to activity on Sunday afternoon, April 26. Here's the text of what I sent to the Tahlequah Daily Press:

Green Country Seed Savers
Invites Everyone to a Tomato Cage Building Party

Hoping to grow a bountiful crop of
tomatoes this year? Green Country Seed Savers will be meeting on
Sunday, April 26 at 2:00 PM. This month's meeting will be at
Tahlequah Lumber because we will be contructing five foot tall tomato
cages, the kind Grandma and Grandpa used, before box stores sold such
things. Box stores don't sell tomato cages as tall and sturdy as
these. Yet because of the cost of a roll of wire many gardeners don't
make them. Let's get together and do it! We will bring tools and know
how. Participants can bring willing hands and enough cash to pay for
whatever amount of wire they use for cages they take home. Estimated
cost per cage is under $5. Tahlequah Lumber will allow us to make the
cages outside the store, in an unpaved area. During our meeting we
will discuss the different types of tomato varieties available:
determinate, indeterminate, short season, mid season, late season,
small fruited, standard fruited, beefsteak fruited, paste etc. We
will have members present representing much knowledge and experience
in tomato culture and varieties. In all likelihood some will bring
extra plants and seeds. For further information contact: George
McLaughlin 918-457-8284. Visit us at our website:
