Comments (24)Hey MrLike2u... Yes its has been awhile since I had the NBC...It was given to me from one of my girlfriends...she actually divided the whole plant and repotted it for me...I guess that it was in so much shock that it took several years for it to bloom...But the last time that it did bloom, I had about 20 flowers...I even had to call out for my trip...it was that important for me to see them bloom that night!! (I work for the airlines) but thankfully, the scheduler loves plants too!!! So she resheduled my trip by two days!! So I did get to see the magic that night!!! SO when I lost the plant...i was really bummed...needless to say that the Mr/Mrs that donated it to me was a kind person..and I certainly am thankful... The fragrance is hard to describe to some..but the ones that have had the pleasure of witnessing this ....is priceless!!! Did you understand what i as trying to explain earlier in the post about you saying that you could see something? "prior agreements will always be respected..." Thank you for the compliments on the screens!!! They are a little large for me... But I will be excited to get started...They are 3/8 1/4 and I need to find the 1/8 or insect screen...that will be on the list to do tomorrow!!! I will definately keep them dry... Question? Where can I find the covered screen that i see others cut into small squares to cover the bottom of the holes in the pots? It looks like its plastic or something like that...Any ideas? The only thought that comes to mine at the moment is needlepoint or crossstitch netting...Thanks for any help!! Hope all is well up north!!! Take care everyone... Comments (27)pssst, Lowes in the Houston area all just got new shipments of cactus\succulents and there are a ton of these in there. As a matter of fact, they must have shipped to everyone because Walmart and Home Depot were both unwrapping the same cactus this past week. I was kind of surprised to see all the varieties of jades they had. You know I had to dig through all the boxes and picked up an euphorbia I didn`t have along with some nice little plants for a cactus dish garden. I myself do not grow them (jades), they do not like the humidity of the island nor our monsoon rains. There is a nursery up the road that has some enormous green jades that are in full bloom right now. They keep them in a very dry, very hot greenhouse and I think water them once a year. Don`t have a hot dry greenhouse either. I`ve mailed plenty of ball moss,Tillandsia recurvata, to Canada, as a craft item of course, not to grow or anything. That`s my story and I`m sticking to it. Norma, you always make me laugh. Tally HO!...See MoreBeautiful Hummel's Sunset Jade Plant
Comments (15)Hello All. Thanks everyone, glad you all like it. Yes the weather here in the UK has been very strange lately, I was on the river side on sunday enjoying the sun, now tuesday, were told to expect snow tomorrow lol. I live in Hull and have been looking in every garden center locally for years, and after a long search on the internet, I found a place called southfield nurseries in Lincolnshire that sold much smaller ones. It is a 2 hour drive from my home so I called and asked if they had any bigger ones, wich they did, but they won't deliver these as they are too big for transit. Luckily for me, they have a friend who also lives in Hull, and were visiting at the weekend, so they very kindly offered to take one to his house for me to pick up :) When I picked it up, it was just at the end of flowering, lots of dead flower at the end of each banch, really hope it flowers again next year. Does anybody have any tips on ensuring it does, and does anybody know, if I were to prune it slightly, is now a good time of year to do it? Kind regards, Steve....See MoreJade, jades, jades, anyone?
Comments (128)Thanks for all the pictures. Are you satisfied as-is or do you have plans for pruning/directing growth? I'm not saying it needs change, it is beautifully shaped as-is. Just wondering what your plans are. It would be brash indeed to insist this go into a gritty mix since it has done so well in its current soil. Caution is definitely worth repeating however. If a person waters appropriately the plant can thrive in a water-retentive soil. The problem comes in when someone waters frequently, waters some more as the answer to all plant problems, and waters still some more to fulfill some nurturing tendency(that'd be me). The soil then tends to stay soggy, and the plant spends a lot of energy repairing and replacing waterlogged roots instead of growing. If this continues the plant is at risk to be overwhelmed with root rot and death. At that point there are not enough roots to use the water, and the soil is destined to stay soggy until the haggard plant is rescued, or it simply gives up the ghost. With an appropriate gritty mix, the waterlogged condition never occurs, thus it is safer for the novice/casual grower, though under watering can slow plant growth too. (With a quicker wet-dry cycle in a gritty mix, faster root growth can occur and subsequently faster plant growth. Another advantage.) I was trying to talk water, but in the process got very long-WINDED. Stopping now. ez...See Moremarguerite_gw Zone 9a
