Winter bed, summer bed - how do you do yours?
Comments (35)Val, Bed Bath & Beyond sells duvet clips (you may have to ask someone to find them for you in the store, I did). They are padded so you won't feel them too much on the outside, inside they clip the edge of the duvet to the comforter. I had to buy a couple sets for my cal king bedding, just doing the corners wasn't enough. DH would tug on it and the clip would fall out. They're a hassle to put on and you'll find you don't want to wash the duvet as often just to avoid the whole clipping and unclipping process. But at least it keeps the comforter from traveling inside the duvet. I'm so sick of dealing with this problem this will be my last duvet. If I have to pile on layer after layer of coverlets I'll do it just to be rid of this annoyance. Maybe I dislike duvets more than most people because a Cal King comforter is so large it's difficult to shake it out when the comforter falls to the foot of the bed. I hate pulling up the duvet on a cold night only to realize there is no comforter inside, it's moved halfway down the bed!...See MoreIn your small house, where do you put ____?
Comments (32)'It seems to me what I need to add to the kitchen remodel plan is an outdoor sink like a laundry sink' could you put one up in a potting table outside? I found a good one yrs ago at a yard sale. Still have it and someone (on here maybe?) suggested I use it outside to wash muddy dog feet when needed (sometimes it does rain out here!). I bought it for 5.00 to be a fountain, but i do have a fountain so the dog feet sink will probably be it's job. 'I can see such a setup in the desert, Steph. Save some on your water heating bill, huh.' yes! I have taken a shower (of sorts) outside when my plumbing pipe weren't working. I have a 2nd water storage tank that operates on gravity feed so I used that. While mostly dressed since I don't (yet) have a covered space out there. I've also colored my hair out there holding a hose (the rinse it out part) because it was easier on my back. i think getting a cheap handheld for out there is a good idea (they don't last long here. even those for watering plants end up 'soldered' onto the hose end by the heat). I do plan to turn off the hot water heater this yr. if I figure out how. my friend is coming out soon to do some work and I'll ask him. I might even need a new one in the new place as I've noticed the water there smells and has little specks in it when left setting in the wash basin. kind of rusty looks specks - good clue there. 'I have never found a good spot to keep my vacuum cleaner or my ironing board.' that's a bummer, isn't it? most houses don't seem to have a place. we need more women designing them! I designated space in the closet of my craft/store/misc room for those things. finally they'll have their OWN home! I will no longer have to move them from room to room, walk around them etc. Actually, I have little use for either anymore - lol! guess the upright will still be needed for the area rugs tho. I'm planning a hanging rack in the utility room for new dust mop type things. I used to love to iron, but haven't done that in over 20 yrs now. don't even have an iron - will have to buy one. They come in handy when hemming things. I have to hem any pants my sister gives me. So far I've either just cut them to fit me or just hand turned them up and hand stitched 'em in place. Not the best way to do it....See MoreWhat do you do with your bed pillows?
Comments (25)Lynn: really like your idea as well - at least they are hidden. Part of the reason for not having the sleeping pillows on the bed is they are not that great looking. We have TempurPedic pillows and the pillowcases don't fit them really well so there's a lot of material around that stick out at the sides and could show with deco pillows in front - don't really know yet. I don't want to spend a lot of time doing my bed either. Trisha: throwing them on the bedside rug is not an option. Lynn and Terriks: First, we won't have too much wall space due to a lot of glass for the view and don't want the TV in front of any of the glass. But, I don't plan to spend a lot of time doing work stuff in the bedroom and if I do occasionally I can listen to the news and if there is something interesting to watch I can stop for a few minutes. I think of my bedroom as a place to go away from work and chores and to relax - read, watch TV, sleep. In fact, I will need to put on ear phones when DH is in bed if he wants to read. Ironing and other chores will usually be done in the kitchen, family room, or outside. Thanks for all your ideas - Cheers!...See MoreWhere do you put your throw pillows??
Comments (33)Well, even if revived by a spammer, it's still a useful topic. I find I'm incapable of making that "multiple designer pillows" look work. I've tried, but just can't pull it off. But we have multiple pillows because we actually use them. We read in bed and/or watch TV together, almost every night, in our MBR. When we decided to redo the MBR, one of the most expensive things we put in was a built-in storage headboard between the custom bookcases. After 25 yrs of stacking pillows on a bench I was tired of it. I wanted a slanted front where we could stack pillows 3-deep in comfort! This is the headboard unit right after it was installed (I replaced the crappy window blinds with a beautiful plantation shutter unit that I'm soooo happy with). It is sized for a CA King bed: The two storage compartments are identical, just reversed. The wider compartment fits a king-size pillow perfectly. Each will hold 2 fat pillows plus 1 smaller bedroll pillow. The smaller compartment is a great little cubbyhole for keeping little-used stuff accessible but out of sight:...See Morecat_mom
