Thanks @sherm1082! So I've been in my house since August of 2013. It's a new house which the builder sodded with Tif419. I've been following the bermuda bible for the past 2 years. I have a TruCut Reel mower that I cut the grass at about 1" religiously every 2-3 days (3 days max). So this year I decided to sand my lawn to remove a lot of dips and valleys in the lawn (which as we all know are exacerbated when your grass is only 1" tall). I used SuperSod's leveling mix which is 30% compost, 70% sand. Its really great stuff. I put this down last weekend (Memorial Day weekend). Anyways, now my bermuda seems to be sending up seed heads. They are tiny and white but really take away from the appearance of the lawn. I understand that means the grass is stressed in some way. I watered the leveling mix in and we've gotten some rain since then but I forget exactly how much. Any ideas? I'm thinking of getting a soil test as I have not done that yet on this lawn. Thanks for any help and guidance you can provide! Note: My last fertilization was early May with 34-0-0 slow release (1lb per/k).

The bermuda bible recommends a 3-1-2 or 4-1-2 be applied in the March-May period. No it does not say that, at least that is not the intention I was aiming for. The balanced application is to be made for the very first spring application in lieu of a soil test result, and it is one application only per year, All subsequent applications are straight nitrogen. To answer your question from this point on it is straight nitrogen for the rest of the year. Then this Fall I suggest a soil test to see what if anything needs to be done next season. With your application of 10-20-10 this year it is not likely you will need any potassium or phosphorous next season.

What town are you in? Lowes Suggest a larger town like Muskogee, McAlester, or Durant.

There is no mistaking for that wonderful "Monarch waltz" in the air. Hope that your new milkweed does well for you,Miss Sherry. I know you have had a time finding the right milkweed for your area. Isn't the A. linaria some of the wild that you found near where you live? I'll bet that the A. perennis will do quite nicely for you, also. I haven't gotten any Trop. mw planted yet, Sandy. I plan to pick some up at Marilyn's sale. I've been running behind, and as of last Friday,I've gotten even SLOWER! I was cutting back the dead on some Salvia greggii, and wacked off part of the tip of my middle finger of my left hand!!! OUCH!!! So, I got to be treated as a patient in my own place of employment! There was nothing to stitch back, so it is going to have to heal from the inside. And, I'm am going to have to be very, very careful about keeping it out of the dirt. :( I was most fortunate that it wasn't worse than what it was. And, I am right handed, so that has been a help. But, try washing your hair, flossing, trimming, planting, and TYPING with one hand. I know better. I feel pretty stupid. No eggs, yet. Tomorrow is supposed to be even warmer than today, so hopefully more leaves will come out. I have new buds on my tomentosa, also. No serpentaria or clematitis, yet. No pipevines. And, only a small pipevine chrys. I sure hope that some have overwintered on the vines. I may have to beg some cats from you. How fun to be able to release some butterflies at your Seminar!!! So, it is usually about this time. Last year my milkweed was up March 25th, and I had eggs by March 30th. Be sure to share when you see your 1st Monarch. The 1st is always so special.
