Been very busy. Finally got a chance to post what I made last week.

As I was Googling to find out about Easter and Passover, i discovered that on the same day, there was another major holiday, Qingming Festival, celebrated in China.

Since I had 2 Chinese friends came, I celebrated Qingming also. Concurrence three holidays.

Lamb, Year Of The Lamb, Lamb for Passover, and lamb for Easter.

Oooh! I love your eggs with the leaf masks. We were allowed to color eggs, but then they were cut up for the traditional eggs and salt water.

What is that with the smoked lamb? Potato wedges? Nice color. Love the fig leaves.

Everything looks delicious.

I love your eggs too! and the lamb looks fantastic -- especially with the fig leaves.

To me, it looks like quartered dill pickles with the smoked lamb. lol!

So, let's say you turn the corner again with base cabs. Could the oven stack be on the end of that leg with the cooktop to the right of it or even in the corner? Is that wall 7'5" to the corner of the other cabinets or to the wall? Honestly and amazingly... every inch matters which is why it's so important to get the dimensions of the room exact on graph paper. I had lots of ideas about my kitchen that when I really got to the inches of it... couldn't make it work the way that I envisioned. I went through oh, so much graph paper. My gut feeling is that no matter if you turn the corner or not, that island is too long. And especially so if you turn the corner with cabs again, (which might be a good answer to some of your appliance placement issues.) I read that the architect thinks it's a 'cleaner' look without that, but it might be borking the functionality... hence your title, right? :) As it is drawn now, you've got a real pinch point between the end of the island where you want your stool and the end of the table and chairs by the sliding door. But, I'm going by what may be inexact drawings so I could be all wet on this.

Oh so looking forward to a bacon burger or a BLT. I do have some of our salt cod soaking, but that is for a bacalao salad and cod cakes for friday. A note for NYC/NJ Fairway shoppers...they have lovely big fillets of salt cod right now. The usual ones they have are fine, from Nova Scotia i think, blue label. But these are huge and big does mater in this instance. Slice into 1lb portions, wrap and freeze. Good price and a great winter meal. I just did a salt cod weekend for a recent family reunion.

Hi Cindy, Thanks for your kind words. The stain is actually called "java", we didn't opt for a glaze, so it's just Bertch's java on maple wood. I've put a link to the Bertch website which has better pics than my photography. I haven't had any problem with dust collecting on the doors -- maybe because it's a 3" shaker, though I'm not sure that's it but for whatever reason the "ledge" is pretty pronounced making it easy to swipe at when cleaning up the kitchen. I had a beveled edge before and found it harder to keep clean. You might try posting a new thread to ask others' with shaker cabinets for their experience, I'm sure you'd get lots of responses. I sometimes wear a mask in the kitchen. When I'm grinding powders, helps keep me from breathing the whatever dust. And also when I'm doing some big batch deadly hot peppers I wear a mask, safety glasses and gloves while processing them. Also mask and safety glasses if I'm doing a big boiling kettle outside to help protect my face from the steam. Face PPE can also be nice if one is doing large batches of what can be splashy, like processing citrus or sometimes frying. It can help curb or break improper tasting habits some folks have. And when cooking or processing food for others, helps keep your cooties from getting in their food. I would also add to that list good quality oven mitts, an oven thermometer, and cutting boards that can be easily and frequently sanitized.

In keeping with the Asian theme, I thought those were lions head dumplings. Very very pretty!

The Matzo ball soup looks highly edible. The balls look very soft and the soup looks nicely thick and "with a body to it". Sight for sore eyes after so many rubber matzo balls in thin liquid. The Chosen People's troubles didn't come to an end when they got out of Egypt. Matzo it here to stay!

Elery smoked lamb for Easter too, but no one would eat it except him and the dog, LOL. That looks like zucchini wedges with the smoked lamb? I'd eat those. Oh, and the jelly beans too, love those darned things.

I tried those eggs with the leaves one year, ala Martha Stewart. Alas, Martha Stewart does not live here, so I wasted my time and leaves and got the ugliest eggs ever! Yours actually look like they are supposed to, LOL.
