And yet, my parents put marble in their foyer in 1971, and it's still there. I suppose it acquired "patina" the years of teenagers stomping around, but it looked fine until they started using walkers a year or so ago.

My friends put marble in their foyer two years ago and it's stunning. I too, am not a fan of this tile for foyer. Another option if you like grays is slate tile. That's what we're putting in our foyer. Home Depot sells it for reasonable.

bpathome--1971 must have been a good year for marble tile in the foyer, we had that too! It was still there when my mom sold the house 30 years later and looked good.

how will it flow with your other flooring choices? I am not a fan...looks like bathroom/laundry (do not mean to hurt your feelings).

At least in the photo, it looks a little too industrial or something...Agree with slate being a good pick, or they have some nice porcelain "marbles" that don't have the maintenance of the real thing.

I am not sure where people get these ideas! Nothing says "classic" more than a marble foyer.

I'm not a fan of the quartz for flooring either. I don't see why you can't use marble. But you want to be careful of the shine and the texture. Shiny, flat floors, esp those without a lot of grout, can get very slippery very quickly with a damp shoe or even a high heel. They look beautiful, but not so much up close and personal after you've slipped and hit your head.

I will investigate marble again. My only concern is durability especially during winter with the salt being dragged back into the house

I live in "salt territory", too. How much outdoor-shoe traffic will this foyer get? A good outdoor mat as well as a large indoor one for winter will help a lot, on any floor (I'd think wood would be worse?)

if you are certain you don't want marble because of salt issues i also suggest slate
i have it in my kitchen, laundry/mud room (everyone enters the house here) and a bath and i love it mine is not sealed

look at a honed marble rather than a polished marble. I have that in my sun room and drag terra cotta pots all over it all the time. The worse I treat it the better it looks.

One of my favorite foyers in any of our homes was marble. It was about 100 square feet of happiness... I didn't really ever do anything but damp mop that floor over the 13 years we lived there. Key is to have a great mat outside the front door:)
