Comments (4)I don't think that it is very common with citrus. But those citrumelo images were not the only ones you've seen! There's an excellent picture of crown gall affecting an orange tree right in this very thread! ;-) Raimeiken's citrus was made susceptible because of its location near the diseased oleander. Since we know that this bacterium is very easily transmitted via any tiny opening in the plant...pruning cuts, lenticels, insect damage, etc...the chances of this and almost any plant becoming infected is pretty good. Some plants can live with an active infection for quite some time without breaking out in the 'tumors' we can recognize right away. However, the plants will usually be stunted and unproductive....See MoreIs my young avocado tree gonna be ok?
Comments (13)Be sure not to over water it, that can be worst then not enough water in my opinion, they just need to be moist for a young plant and you have plenty of mulch to keep the moisture in the soil unless it's really hot there . If you have really good draining soil you might be alright watering often if it's really hot and sunny, but you would need at least 5" per hour from your perc test. It's probably going though root shock which is common. I've seen where people paint the trunk white if it's going to be exposed to a lot of direct sun light, I see a lot of exposed trunk at the base. I also read not to add fertilizer when planting a young tree it might burn the roots, instead add it 3 months after planting? I just got a similar size Mexicola 2 weeks ago but since I'm just going into winter in zone 8b Florida I'm keeping it inside my home till March when I will plant it. Here's a pic of mine, its leaves are somewhat droopy also, I water mine about every 3 days but the water runs wright thought the pot....See MorePruning a young peach tree.
Comments (1)I think I wouldn't trim that tree; if it were mine. I would hang weight to the branches and pull them down so they're not growing up. I think they say that a 45° angle for the branches is about right. Most of them look small enough to bend. Watch the one at 11 o'clock; it may not want to bend. You can tie the twine to a brick or a heavy washer, depending on the size of the branch/twig. After about 6 months you can remove the tie downs and perhaps move them to new growth. My trees fruited in the second year, but it had a bigger trunk. You don't want a lot of fruit weight on a small or young tree. You should keep mulch against the tree so you don't have to mow/weed wack; which usually leads to damage of the tree....See Morebengz6westmd
