Something finally going right. My credenza in progress.

I've been working on this all week. The base for the credenza that will be on the back wall of my kitchen. These are cabinets I got from The Cabinet Joint.com probably 4-5 years ago? They've been sitting there, assembled, but unpainted with the drawers just shoved in the spaces.

I haven't decided if I'm going to stick with maple drawer fronts, because 2 of the uppers are oak class cabinet doors. The center upper, though, is also maple. Gotta think about this.

I've gotten out the maple pieces left over from my 24" and 14' butcher block counter I built. (Those long boards sticking off the left.) I'm thinking of making that the counter top for the credenza. Maybe a checkerboard?

In the meanwhile, any time I can get something together to get rid of all this visual clutter!? THE BETTER.

What clutter? And there's not one cat in that pic--what gives? ;)

That is going to be lovely. So, the frame will be painted, with natural wood drawer fronts? If you're using the BB for the top, I think it would look nice to paint the drawer fronts to match the frame. But I prefer painted cabinets.

How pretty! Do you mind if I ask how much did the credenza cost and what are the dimensions?

Below is an updated photo. In some ways it looks like we havenÂt come that far in a yearÂso depressing! Anyhow, I did move the globe blue spruce to the NW corner, and planted an Emerald Green Arborvitae tucked behind it. There is now a line of purple leaf sand cherries along the fenceline (mostly out of view), along with some of my favorite perennials. IÂm not as happy with the front, middle. It still looks messy to me, partly because itÂs unfinished and I still canÂt decide what to do. The roses to the right of the window came up from the rootstock and IÂm just not happy with them any longer, so I think IÂll yank them out. HereÂs what IÂm considering: planting honeysuckle to the right and left of the front window (for balance), and putting some low growing shrubs in front of the windows. (Or even keeping the goldmound spireas that are in there now). (This is a loose adaptation to BratÂs suggestion Â thanks!). The tall things right in front of the window are coneflowers that I think IÂll let bloom this season, then move in the fall. As far widening the space, I donÂt want to fight that spousal battle. Frustrating, because IÂm coming to realize that such a narrow space has made this really difficult to carry out. There might be a chance of pulling up some grass along the front walk on each side to about 10 feet out from the house, and therefore connecting the right and left even more. So what do you think of the new house color? Love it or hate it! I do have plans for a tree in the front yard, to balance out the one that currently exists, and to be visible from inside the house. I recently "let go" of a number of work clothes--fine wool skirts, pants, jackets. I'm still doing nearly the same work, and wearing professional wardrobe, but these either no longer fit or don't look quite right. I also almost exclusively wear pants and jackets now rather than skirts, and I previously had had a lot of narrow skirts that fit pretty closely and with not much forgiveness in the hips and waistbands! I had not worn them in maybe 5 years and had had many of them out of my closet for a year or more but could not "let go." It helped me to try on a bunch of things in my closet and to see that I had other clothes that looked better now and that I had a slightly new "look" that wasn't achieved by the old clothes. So, that actually styles HAD changed a bit and that I would buy new things rather than make those work. And there is the 5 extra pounds--that I might lose, or might not. But I really can't completely explain why I could collect this huge pile this month and could not do the same thing the previous year. Somehow I was able to see that I just was not going to wear them. And, that somehow I would be able to find other things (this idea is re: the hidden hoarding, being afraid I would not find other clothes. That's not so far off really, because "they" did quit making some fabrics and styles that I like--or at least, not readily available in local dept. stores.) I think also these represented a lot of my early professional years and investment in my work wardrobe, and there is some nostalgia for that young(er) working woman. I have had the same experience with some other items this year--things I could not have imagined giving away last year, now I look and say, why on earth do I still have this? So to me, it is encouraging not to be too hard on myself when clearing out things--that, if I seem to be struggling with something, I can either take a little time to try to unravel why I'm struggling--that does sometimes help-- or I can just put it aside, but that when the time is right, I will be able to let it go and it will feel right. This seems to be true for a number of things when you have a family--one year you couldn't imagine giving away some games, or puzzles, or sporting goods, and the next year, kids are different, now you realize nobody's actually used it in longer than you thought, and boom--give it to someone who will use it.

@Lars - thanks! It is a lap pool. I found another store that carries it in the USA. I asked the sales rep if anyone had ever ordered the yellow credenza version and she said yes. She said they have had very good experience with this company (onecollection). danishdesign store I am thinking of ordering the drawers in blue for the matching desk I have when they go on sale. I actually did order them once from dwr on sale, but they arrived smashed. :( This is what my desk looks like (not my desk, but same model). It matches the credenza - same legs and trim: with tray drawers:

I can relate. I have phal in bud after 2 years and another one that hasn't bloomed since 2016. Enjoy. .it does seem quite healthy given the number of buds.

Well. Cost I can look up, but after all this time I don't remember. I can tell you the two, yet-unrvealed glass door cabinets that will be on top were from a reuse center and were about $60 (24x39) . The center upper, also glass, is CabinetJoint.com, so I'll have to check., (27x30).

The shown base cabinets are maple because I was going to completely paint then. Bbelieve it or not, I'd choose oak now. mamagoose, I still absolutely love painted cabinets. They speak to me like nothing else. But I've fallen in love with some of the weathered oak. I have to tell you, I love my weathering, not some of the crazy (Pinterest) stuff out there! I digress.

TG, the base cabinets are 24x21, 27x24, and 24x21 again. I'll dig out my papers on cost for you. I saw them the other day, so I do know where they probably are!

mama goose, I wanted to show you some of the inspiration pictures to which I keep returning. I thought I'd paint my piece this way, (and my uppers are weathered) and if I hated it, I'd just keep painting !

Those are all gorgeous, especially the ones with glass doors. I think the uppers would look great, but not sure of the drawers. I found this example, which is very basic, but as you say, you can always paint the drawers later.

Here's another, which I like much better:

BTW, the blog where I found the pics sounds very interesting, and describes most of my furnishings. ;)

Been there many times. I've noticed the furniture painters keep repeating their favorite effects, often without realizing it's always the same. Luckily, they're most often very lovely! I think I'd really love to see your home's decor! :)

I like those pieces, but prefer a more raw look. i.e. unpainted or stained ever. I'm able to achieve this with Citristrip on even antique pieces that have decades, if not a century's worth of layers on them. Once it sucks the stain out, it's truly a blank canvas. But then, once I'm done, I can't stand to paint it! In comes my matte paint base finish...

In my MBR I've done stained and waxed pallet doors and drawer fronts, which I love, too. It's hard making a decision about something, so I'm trying to start with the most basic choice, moving up towards the full paint job. So far, I don't care for the raw, never-touched maple I have on the the drawers right now. So something's gotta give.

T_G screamed "Checkerboard" when I was musing about the butcher block countertop I'm going to make. In that, I have a weathered color (Varathane 'Sunblached' with Minwax's 'Ebony' then 'Dark Walnut') I like a lot, but I haven't decided what to make the other checks with. Raw maple for the light, or just another stain color. Either way, despite my infatuation with the raw look, I'm leaning towards painting the drawer fronts.

That is going to be beautiful. I've seen quite a few cabinets in the kitchen like that. I think it's really cool. Can't wait to see it finished. Love your inspiration pictures!
