*Big Breath* I'm About to Double (or triple) My Budget

Carrie B

When I first started thinking about re-doing my kitchen, I thought I might add a standard window somewhere. And, then, I fell in love with the idea of a galley kitchen that would create a focal point for the entire open-floor plan first floor - a large window/door right in the middle of (and taking up most of) my back wall.... there goes the budget. Major structural change to a three story, 200 year old brick row home.

While there's still time to change my mind, I'm thinking that this is a
worthwhile expense - I don't plan to move for the next 20 years, I do
live in an increasingly hot neighborhood, and I've got the $ socked away
(though it will take away from retirement savings.)

I know that budget creep is a real thing. I know that I'm not alone in adjusting my budget northward. Anyone else make a conscious decision to spend two or three times what they originally thought they'd spend?
