My ranunculus seem to have stopped growing?

I'm in zone 7b. I planted my ranunculus bulbs in early to mid March (we haven't had a frost since.) Only 5 out of 20 bulbs came up, but they sprouted on time. Since then, they have developed several leaves each, but don't seem to be growing anymore. They are about 3 inches tall. They get 5-6 hours of full sun a day. Our soil is very clay-heavy, but I mixed in sand and compost as well.

Any suggestions as to whether this is normal, or what I'm doing wrong? This is my first time trying to grow ranunculus.

Pics, if they help:
