One question I have is whether the planters are painted and what color they are.. white is a reflective color and cooler than black or a dark color, so if they are dark, it would be a good idea to paint them white so to reflect a lot of the heat. The pot inside the pot is a good idea, and then put several one to two inch size rocks or golf balls in the bottom of the planter,under the pot, so the there's room for a little water for humidity and reserve. I'm surprised no one mentioned wave petunias..they're heat hardy if watered every day as planters in the heat need to be, and put on a great show. Another annual if you can get them, or plant from seed are annual dwarf phlox. They are about 10 inches to a foot tall and are the most cheerful, cottage flower I know. They're a little tricky to get going well, but once they're established, what a beautiful, charming show they put on...It really helps boost them to pinch off the seed balls which form after the flower clusters...but it's a joy to see how readily they flower afterwards. There is also a Twinkle dwarf variety which look like little stars. Try them for a sunny site. Sweet alyssum is also a nice one for a hot spot. How about Zinnias? They come in some interesting colors, shapes and forms.

Creekylis and Linnea, thanks. My previous camera just wouldn't pop the lens out if the batt was too low. Live and learn, I'll try recharging the batt. This camera is new to me so I'm still trying to figure the beastie out. Parsonse, I'll join the others in telling you your room is very pretty, and the light fixture is just right. Your panelling job is gorgeous! It looks like it's always been there. I've looked at that style before (drawings) and wondered how it would look made up. Did you also beef up the moulding around your door?

I love the accent wall direction, but I'm not liking the round/sunburst shape there. It mirrors the lamp, but the room is predominantly rectangular so the sunburst mockups look like they sort of complete. Maybe if you could add more curves, through some pillows on the chairs, candles on the coffee table, etc? If you room had a less contemporary feel I'd think it was the perfect spot for some type of gallery mantel, but I don't see a "this and that" approach working too well in your space. As-is, I'd go with something that kept the lines of the rug and fireplace... just for example: Or maybe something that was rectangular (square, but we can pretend...) AND round AND silver-toned:

We have a big square living room....its big. We have put a big leather recliner set, it fills up the room nicely. Also we have a 60" TV on a TV shelf. I have bought expensive paintings 3 of them. 2 of them are a pair with similar(almost identical). I am thinking of hanging them behind my loveseat. The other painting is huge realy..50X50 size. its a modern art...the only place I can hang it is on my TV wall . I DO NOT have a fireplace :-) Please tell me if I hang the really big painting on TV wall, will it look bad?
