Will a haas avocado ever flower or fruit in a container?
Comments (9)It totally should, with good care and a crazy pollination game you need to play. Mine flowered profusely from the get go as five gallon trees, however despite trying to cross-pollinate between the two different varieties by hand, I never got any fruit. Some formed, but always dropped off before reaching even the size of a grape. I gave up after 3 or 4 years of no fruit and constant struggle with scale insects during 6 months of year when plants had to be inside in my climate. Pollination is definitely tricky with these guys⦠they must be cross-pollinated by another variety that has a different flower type (called A or B). Pollen is only released either in the morning or evening, and the stigma is receptive for a short time as well. You can look all thus up online to find a compatible partner for Haas. Good luck!...See MoreOvergrown Avocado - No Flowers No Fruit
Comments (10)This post made me laugh. When I was in elementary school I started an avocado pit and planted it in the back yard. It grew into the most enormous avocado tree you ever saw, and in all the years we lived there it produced exactly one avocado, although it was a whopper. Then it evidently decided it had done its duty and that was that. I agree about grafting, if you're serious about getting fruit from it....See Moremy avocado tree
Comments (4)writersblock has it. Is this a tree you purchased? If you started it from seed (pit) then you are looking at umpteen years (7-10 is normal and at best) before you'll see fruit. If you purchased this plant from a reputable nursery you should get fruit in 3-4 years. It's rare to get much fruit before then. I had an avocado tree that produced at 2 years. It gave me 3 fruits. I have another that is 3 years old now and gave me 5 or 6 fruit this year....the other one that produced last year at 2 did not produce this year at all. They take a long time to mature. Hang in there. Also spring fertilizer should be lower in nitrogen than summer/autumn. Good luck! Barbie~...See MoreWhy do my healthy full grown avocado trees produce almost no fruit?
Comments (8)I grew up with three 20-40ft tall avocado trees in my yard, as well as three 4ft diameter 60ft tall Pecan trees, a couple 12-20ft tangelo Trees, Half a dozen 12 ft tall Banana plants, Half a dozen 60ft tall oaks, three 6-12ft Naval orange trees And a myriad of no less than 3 dozen different flowering plants throughout The front and rear yard. our avocados typically produce every 2-3 years due to temperatures dropping to 12°F-32°F between November and march depending on hurricanes and rainfall here in Central Florida. When our Avocado trees bear fruit, it’s typically 12-30 avocados per tree throughout the producing months. However opposite those productive years are always low production or zero production years. Not certain of the tree‘s descent, but Our avocados are typically well over 2lbs each and very large....See Moremattoski
