Tile install - need help for surface prep of concrete subfloor

I'm looking to install tile in two separate rooms. One room, call it a den, has a concrete
subfloor that is many years old (not fresh poured). It had glue down vinyl tile over it
before. I removed this vinyl tile and
have scraped up the glue. The floor is
still a little tacky in some places but for the most part is smooth
concrete. There are some very thin
cracks in some places, but I think this is normal. Do I need to
apply RedGard or something similar over this concrete subfloor or is RedGard only for bathrooms and
other areas that will get wet? Are there
any other surface preparations that I need to consider before putting down the thinset/mortar? I intend to use 6"x24" glazed porcelain
tile that looks like wood. They are
3/8" thick and recommend a 1/8" grout line.

The other room, a sun room, also has a concrete subfloor
that is many years old. This floor is
scored and stained but not sealed. Do I
need to apply RedGard over this concrete subfloor as well? Are there any other surface preparations that
I need to consider before putting down the thinset/mortar? I intend to use
18"x18" glazed ceramic tile.
They are 9mm thick and recommend a 1/8" grout line.

Please advise.
