Have Cut Leaf-Silver Maple seeds
Comments (0)I have 2 trades of 25 fresh seeds from a beautiful cut-leaf silver maple. From past trials, I have found that approximately 60% of seedlings have some degree of the cut leaf trait, with about 30% being as lacy as the original tree. Seeds are ripe and need to be planted now with germination in appoximately 10 days to two weeks. Select seedlings with the laciest leaves and cull the rest. The cut-leaf silver maple is a very fast growing tree. The original tree was about 4' tall when we bought it; after 12 years it is approximately 50', so this is not a tree for a small yard. But if you have the room, it is truly unique and beautiful and well worth growing. Trades only and please post here. In addition to what is already on my Want list I would love fresh seeds from any of the 'Lady' series of hellebore other than white, viola Fuji Dawn,or if you have something cool and amazing, make me an offer. kms...See MoreWacky winter--midwest roses leafing out already, 4-6wks early!
Comments (25)Temps are predicted to drop significantly into the teens over the next 3 to 5 days and snow for tomorrow night and Saturday. Only an inch though. Not enough to cover and do much good. But then next week sometime it's supposed to go back up into the 40s again! What a crazy winter! Snow fall amounts are less than half what it was last year at this time and days above freezing are more than twice as many. I watered my roses today! We haven't had any significant precipitation in several weeks and it has been very sunny the last few days so I thought maybe they'd like a drink. I also think they'll fare better in the cold snap if they're well hydrated. I had to lug gallon jugs of water out, ugh! If this weather does keep on like this I'm going to ask his nibbs to hook the hose back up!...See MoreJapanese Maple brown tips and leaf curl
Comments (6)Thanks everyone. Not close to house. Thats a good point I never thought of though. Thanks. I got these from Lowes on the cearance rack. They have already dropped their leaves once this year and leafed out again. Just in the last day the leaves pictured above are brown, crispy and I pulld them today. Should I be concern with the plant dying? These trees are about 36" high with two main trunks about 1/2" in diameter. It gets sun until about 3pm. Comments (4)The drip system is on top of the rootball. I dug down about 8 inches and the soil is a good damp. The arborist requested that the soil be able to hold its shape like a snowball, but not be dry and fall apart or be soaking and have water drip out of a ball of it. From what I read, nitrogen is short, but I'll have to check. Also, there are small colonies of little brown bugs sitting under the leaves. I'll look into that too....See Moreakamainegrower
